Beer Nerd Alert! (Me...lol)
There's so many quality beers in cans now ....it's awesome, great for on the yak and the outdoors. I don 't consider $14 for a sixer all that much...it's 72oz of highly hopped , higher alcohol beer that requires more ingredients per batch and also more expensive ingredients than lets say a pacifico that uses corn or rice as a cheap filler. A growler from most breweries runs about the same for a fill. That being said i would say pizza port cans either swamis at 8% abv or ponto at 5% abv are some of the best tasting and best value beers around $12 or $10 for a sixer of TALLBOYS....thats 96 oz of beer. If you see "Booming Rollers" by Modern Times...I highly recommend it...It's a seasonal one by them so wont be on the shelves long...insane tropical hop aromatics bursting out of the can...about $10 for a four pack of 16ozers. Lastly, make sure your IPA's are somewhat fresh...look for the dates and preferably kept in the fridge...a two week refrigerated sculpin is gonna taste way better than a six month old one thats been sitting on a warm shelf. Good bottle shops that curate/ rotate stock are popping up all around..find a couple in your area. Heres a start. http://www.beeradvocate.com/place/city/9/ Buy Local, buy American...good for the economy...screw InBev http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/AB_InBev_brands |

If you are like me, I will pay the extra money for taste any day of the week. I do it with wine all the time. Ballast Point also gives a industry discount if you are in the F&B Business if you show a pay stub. There are 4 locations
BTW- I also enjoy AleSmith, Hess, Green Flash, Alpine and many others. Beer is Good!:cheers1: |
I like beer but I don't like paying $15 for a six pack so I checked reviews of Sculpin a while ago to see if it was worth it. I think it's ranked somewhere in the top 50 beers, but as bluesquids mentioned it has to be fresh. If you can get it within 2 weeks or so of brewing then it's good, but after that then it's just average beer and not worth paying extra for. I'll have to check dates here in south OC to see if I can try a fresh batch. In the meantime I'll start up another batch of homebrew!

Pretty much what Moyer said, I'll happily pay the premium as long as you get what you pay for..

If Stone ever starts to distribute BP you'll be able to get it OC and LA counties. Unfortunately, it will still be pricey. I have to agree with the person that mentioned craft beer in cans. While most craft beers are still pricey they're nice in a cooler or on the go.
ModernTimes St. Archer. Pizza Port Mother Earth <try the Cali Creamin' youll enjoy it> Non SD brews are Sierra Nevada Oskar Blues Maui brewing New Belgium I knows there's a bunch more but I'm tapped out at the moment .(pun intended) Costco is usually a decent place for savings as the cases are usually cheaper than what a retailer can buy them for . the best way to get the liquor or beer that you're looking for is to find a liquor store that you have a good rapport with. Bug them till they bug their distributor. If you show them that you're willing to support them on a regular basis they will order to support your needs. Sorry for the long winded response , just throwing in my two cents. Cheers :cheers1: |
I'll x4 on the Torpedo, and toss in a Lagunitas

If you try and cut cost on your beer, then you need to ask your wife if you can stop holding her purse because your friends are making fun of you...
2 Dorado 22's is usually a good way to start the night. J |

Am I the only one who doesn't actually care for ipa's?
I prefer Hefe and stouts, especially barrel aged stouts. |

The costco in San Juan Capo sells a BP variety case for about $28 (?). Nice if you want to sample several types of BP.

Always liked ipas as well but they've really grown on me these past couple years. When stouts are too heavy you can always count on a good ipa (or 8) to do you right. Cheers! 🍻 🍻 Attachment 14779 |
