Was there all day sunday. Caught a few spotties, all short. Got them on Beardedguy's spinnerbait that was in the swagbag from the tournament on sat. A friend caught and released a nice legal sand bass.
while I was there, there were 2 big-ish halis caught, 1 was 25+" and one was close to 36". Didnt see them or hear a weight. Fun day tho, except for the nastiest sunburn ever on my legs. If you forget sunscreen, dont be lazy like me, go home and get it.

How do you catch smelt? Everyone is hooking them off smelt

sdcoastie 04-21-2015 08:57 PM

Near the inlet to the lagoon from the ocean on the flat beach portion. Toss some bread in the water and the smelt will show up and start to go crazy. Throw a sabiki rig out in the water and profit.

I always see them there, and by the 'point' on the opposite side, hanging out in the weeds. When I was a little kid we used to tie trebles and try snagging them when they were all crowded by shore. Probably not the most ethical or efficient way, but it was fun as hell as a 12 year old.

Sabiki is the way to go, like sdcoastie said, bread will make them crazy.

All this halibut fishing...now I'm gonna have to go build a bait bucket for the damn kayak now. :D

I was gonna go this afternoon but then a friend called and suggested sushi. I couldn't say no! :D

Ill probably be out there on saturday early, if anyone else is planning on coming out. Probably going to be out most of the day. I'll be on a yellow OK malibu two XL, looking lost :P

Skunked but Steve caught a hog of q corbina

sdcoastie 04-23-2015 11:34 PM

Don't feel bad. Was fishing with a bunch of guys on the west lagoon. Not even a nibble. Even the smelt were being finicky today.

Some good patience that is for sure! It took him a long time but he was mellow the whole time. Here is a shot I got as he was getting it to color!
