Give manual DLL registration a shot - heads up, it's a bit technical:

Woah... Yea, a bit technical... couldn't even get past the first step of downloading the file needed. (I have no idea what location they are referring to to download the .cab).

The rest of the steps seem pretty straight forward, but stuck on step 1...

I ended up just downloading Firefox and it worked perfectly. In less time than it took to try to read the instructions.

Felt like I chickened out... well, that's mainly because I did. LOL.

mmmalins 07-18-2009 11:24 AM

This is stupid

Other cams can display without having to install possible trojan software. It is idiotic to make you install something just to view a webcam. BYE!!!!

Royak 12-11-2009 09:56 AM

Can't get webcam with 'Windows 7'

Can the webcam be seen with Windows 7? If not, when will that be fixed?

-scallywag- 12-11-2009 10:51 AM

its not your OS its most likely the browser your using. try installing mozilla firefox....much better all arount than explorer IMO plus you'll be able to see the web cam....

dsafety 12-11-2009 11:07 AM

The webcam displays fine on all of my computers using XP, Vista and Win 7. If you cannot see anything it is probably because you have a security setting that does not allow Active X to run. Try reducing your browser security settings to a less paranoid level.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools and then Internet Options. Under the Security tab play around with the security level until things work. I have my computers set for medium and have specifically allowed ActiveX to run.

I hope that this helps.

Thanks for this post. I've heard other people not able to enjoy the benefit of live LJ Conditions and it is definitely worth a little trouble shooting.

FYI: I'm using Windows 7 Pro and it works fine.

Royak 12-11-2009 11:36 AM

I installed Firefox and it works fine with LJ Webcam. Thanks!

Quilted Germ 12-11-2009 03:30 PM

No problem viewing LJ webcam, but the LJ Tide link doesn't work.....hasn't worked for awhile...

WebCam Gone!

I used to be able to view the webcam, but now it doesn't load for me. What's up? I'm on a imac with OS X 10.5.2. Any ideas?

I am experiencing a similar problem. I have several computers running all the versions of Windows that can view the feed without a problem. I decided to get rid of Vista on one of them and install Win7. For some reason this computer will no longer view the site. I know the problem is some sort of setting on this maching but have been unable to figure it out.

When I try to download the ActiveX file that enables viewing, I get the message that this file cannot be registered on this computer. It must be some security setting but so far I am stumped.

I went to another computer running Win7 that used to be able to view the camera feed. Now this one cannot see the page either. I am pretty good with computer stuff but this problem is beyond me a the moment. Anyone have suggestions?

Bob

Pescavore1 12-25-2009 01:59 PM

I couldn't get it to work using Windows Explorer browser on Windows Vista so I downloaded Google Chrome browser and it works fine. I use Chrome just for the webcam and Explorer for everything else. I recently upgraded to Windows 7 and had to do the same as before.

lambadmin 12-25-2009 02:10 PM

Bob, it sounds like Win7 security is getting in a way.

Try to run Internet Explorer as an administrator:
  • find the IE Icon under All Programs
  • Right mouse button click on it, choose "Run As Administrator"
That did it for me on my new Win7 laptop. Once you install it and it properly registers, you ought to be all set.

CurtyL 12-26-2009 07:45 AM

someone needs to take a little tissue paper on the end of their rod and wipe the lense down.

dsafety 12-26-2009 12:53 PM

Thanks for the tip. The "run as administrator" solution solved my problem of not being able to get the Axis software to load. I can now view the camera feed as before.

I suspect that this solution will work for nearly everyone who is experiencing this problem on a PC. I do not know if Macs have a similar method of disabling paranoid security settings. Wayne, did you come up with a fix on your Mac?

Can some one put a link to the correct Active X Control. I can't find or download it correctly.

DHSDave 08-30-2011 03:43 PM

Cam Issues..Resolved with Firefox...

I downloaded the camera active X add on directly from Axis and disabled my Internet Security, still no luck getting the cam to work on IE Explorer.

My solution was to d/l FireFox Web Browser, works with no problems now.

What About Win-7?

Been able to see the webcam for 5 plus year. Just purchared a new HP slimline with Win-7. Did everything you suggested - turned off security went and enabled all Active X devices - rebooted and still no picture. Played with it for 2 hours and nothing worked.

Whats up?

What OS are you using (Vista, XP, mac OS)?
What browser (Internet Explorer version X, Firefox ver X, etc.)?
Any specific errors that pop up?
When on the webcam page, do you see the frame with nothing in it, some error within it (what error if you do), or no video frame at all (it should be above the "Snap a pic" button)?

Another valid troubleshooting step to try for eveyne with a problem:
  • Go to the Control Panel
  • Look for "Axis Media Control" applet.
    http://www.bigwatersedge.com/webcam/help/cp.JPG
  • If it's not there, the Axis Active-X control was definitely never installed - that's your problem.
  • if it IS there, you should try re-installing it.
  • Open up "Add-Remove Programs" (on XP, in Vista it's called "Programs and Features"
  • Find "Axis Media Control Embedded". Uninstall/remove it.
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/webcam/...removeaxis.JPG
  • You may need to reboot. Always good idea. ;)
  • Go back to the web cam page - you should be prompted to install Axis ActiveX control again.

Sorry I missed this.

Try upening up IE as administrator (right mouse button click in the IE shortcut on the start menu, choose Run As Admin). That usually fixes it on Win 7, and you only need to do this once to initialize the webcam control.

Chris, not sure about Android. It works on my iPhone.

Anyone else, does video work on Android?

Heads up: we're looking into options to upgrade the webcam/webserver, stay tuned. ;)

A bunch of us were willing to give it a blast with a super soaker, but we were warned off by a Mod to not do it.

They know it needs it, it will just take time for them to get down there and deal with it I'm sure...

It's not a matter of time. That dead spider has been there since the beginning of fall. It's procrastination, lack of will, or someone just doesn't care.

I took a look at it up close yesterday when I was down there with my fishin' barge. :D It's hard to see, but it appears to be in some kind of housing so the super-soaker idea probably wouldn't work anyway. Too bad, I like a quick fix.

Well, I see a list of webcam sponsors up there on the left. Perhaps they're unaware how badly this reflects on their sponsorship. Time to make them aware?

nice 2nd post. you've been here what, 2 mins now. :stupid:

It does work on Ice cream sandwich on my Nexus 7. Spider's still there though

lambadmin 01-30-2013 08:20 AM

Please do not clean the camera yourself.
It located on La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club private property - you may get in trouble, and you may get us in trouble so we lose this wonderful privilege of LJBTC letting us have the webcam right at the public launch.

We have placed the request to LJBTC to have the webcam cleaned a while ago. Please be patient.

I could not get it to run on my Android devices until the Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade that I think was version 3.2 but right now it is not working on any of my devices, including my desktop so I think there may be some technical problems some where.
