I've been fishin for 40+ years, and I've come to one conclusion: "Thou Shalt Not KIll." That's right; the Good Book says; "Thou Shalt Not Kill." It doesn't discriminate between : animal,vegetable, or fruit! So I agree with both Brad and Jim: we shouldn't eat Calico's, YTs, cows , broccoli or the rest. Catch release is a "NO-NO" as 10% of the fish we throw back die as well. So there it is=we must learn to photosynthesize.

As far as the Calico's go catch 22 reccomends keeping in the 12' to 17" range.

I keep only an occasional one but don't think anyone should but hammered for that.

Brads take is legal and i don't think out of line.

I know it's a business, but what does concern me is the heavy promotion of kayak fishing, radio talk shows, magazines, newspapers, seminars, and fishing shows.

No matter how much you push conservation people want to take fish home and the growing influx of new anglers will result in more fish taken than even brad :lol:

San Diego Native for 50 years and counting, Stumbled on kayak fishing a few years ago and love it, But with growing explosion of it i fear we might living in the good old day's.

Meanwhile i am going to enjoy every trip.

I am glad to see people showing concern about the future of the sport or the fisheries or conservation in general.

I just read the most recent issue of BASS TIMES(a newletter associated with the freshwater bass tournaments) and there were many articles about the degredation of American streams(50%), about pollution, about the invasion of exotic species, about the lack of support for the environment in Washington, etc.

What it means is that freshwater bass anglers are really getting some savy about the larger issues.

It is my hope that us salt water anglers experience such a raise in consciousness as have our freshwater brethern.

But even if we don't, that Madscientist guy is funny as hell!! :D

Yeah, I wish I'd jumped on the kayak cart a long time before....I didn't really find out about it until I went to turners* one day and somebody brought it up....I was getting funds in order to pick up fishing gear to become another calf on the cattle boats....I googled it and found info, and found a list of recommended sites, checked it out and gradually started aquiring gear suited for yaking....But even from reading posts from a year or so ago...I can tell a big difference in the community of yakfishing....seems as though it's on a boom and it's not the tight circle like some of the vets refer to.....The bigger we get, the more government attention and possible intervention we will see....Enjoy the relative unrestriced ocean access and non licensed yaking that we have....I hear up north it's becoming a fight...






*I hate Turners.....Now that I know about Noah's, Squidco and other small tackle stores, I won't go back...

The kayak fishing community is small enough where any growth of the sport, be it numbers, commercialism, sub-groups, additional message boards (please stop :) ) seem like an expolosion. Even at La Jolla in mid summer, there are plenty of fish and plenty of elbow room. The good old days are still waaay ahead of us.

PS - Come November, the Zonies and Bonies will be gone and you'll find yourself all alone on a Tuesday morning with a big fat homeguard in your lap.
