paintnfish just emailed me about this, Andy/Paul - apologies for almost missing the chance to contribute, I'm signed up but don't know if I can make it. If there will be T-shirts and/or stickers made and I'm not there, please save me a XL!
Paul, my little Travis is just 4 months. I have thought of your James on many occasions the past 4 months. I replay in my mind you introducing me to him and shaking hands at a launch for a tourney many years ago. I don't think you guys made it out that time. Don't think I really understood the level of your loss until recently. Until we come together again to fight for our right to fish, stay strong and Godspeed my veteran brother! |
I'm in and looking forward to it!

No chance to make it for the fishing part. VERY slim chance for the after-event but signed up and paid anyways.
C'mon people, this is a VERY worthy cause. If you value where we still get to fish it is in no small part due to the tireless efforts of a group of people led by Paul and a couple others. |
Pal, Iceman is there going to be a raffle?? thanks Joel

La Jolla Kayak Fishing Tournament
Submit a correction http://media.sdreader.com/img/events...4f6db9d4623575 At one time La Jolla hosted the longest-running kayak fishing tournament in the world. As many as 200 anglers gathered the weekend after Labor Day. Andy "Iceman" Allen of OEX Sunset Beach revived the tradition last year, and this year he's honoring San Diego fishing legend Paul Lebowitz's late son by naming the tournament the James Lebowitz Memorial. Proceeds benefit the scholarship endowment established at Cal Poly Pomona in James' memory. Categories: largest fish overall and largest yellowtail, white seabass, and halibut. Anglers may launch any time after midnight on September 12 from La Jolla Shores; final weigh in will be at Standley Park at 1pm. You must be in line with your fish prior to 1pm. Kids fish free with adult.

Unfortunately I have been unable to swap work days with someone at work, so I'm stuck working this Saturday and will be unable to participate in this great tournament. I will watch the LJ web cam when I can, and look for familiar faces. I wish everyone a great time and hope this event raises a good amount for the JAL scholarship at Cal Poly Pomona. Tight Lines to all BWE members

Looks like perfect conditions for an awesome event!

FISH DONATIONS
For anybody that catches fish tomorrow at the tournament... If you can donate your fish to HOW (Heroes on the Water) the Veterans will appreciate it! I will be filleting fish at the park. So after you weigh your fish in, please find me and drop off your fish.
