La Jolla 11/16/2011 AMs
..ain't kayak, but it is a fishing report. Hey, I've seen a ton of kayaks, much more than usual on Wednesdays! :D
LJ was packed, but it was sloooow. One of those days - a ton of people out there in anticipation of an epic bite, which always seems to take a day off when we all think it's going to happen. :D Oh well - there's always tomorrow. Bautiful conditions, not much action, at least not for us. Around 10 AM, we decided to move to South LJ to try for halibut. We were approaching the tip of the high tide, always the time when the hopes are higher for the flat kind. Just like up North, we couldn't keep black seabass off of our squirts - we got 3! The models down South where much smaller though, 20-30#... Still great game, all released healthy. Then the halimomma decided to sign in. :luxhello: I had my rod in my hand at a time trying to move the line around floating kelp. She inhaled it almost pulling the rod out of my hand, and just sat back down on the bottom. Started lifting her up, liking her signature moves and significant weight A LOT!!!!... :) She cooperated. She almost came up to the color, then saw the boat and took a blistering run back down and out. I had a pretty loose drag, she must have taken at least 50 yards of line.... At that point, I was already too much in love with her, so I turned her back and up... I thought I matched my personal beast, but I just realized it actually beat it. Thanks Brad for a beaut of a picture, can't stop looking at her! :D http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...11-16-2011.jpg |

:luxhello: |
Holy crap! So what is the PB? Nice fish.
|
Adi, I have been back a few times to get another look too. I am guessing well over 40, more towards 50ish.
Hold the presses, just noticed the shadow at the bottom lol. |
Holy Bosian Barn Door Batman!!!!! Damn, that's
a nice butt Adi! My family and I are on our way!! |
WOW, that's one heck of a monster Butt!
|
Nice catch - you've got your halibut game dialed in.
|
Beaut!
|
Thanks all!
Nah... But I must say - we estimated more, we were convinced she was over 40. Huge head and tail, loooong... But not too wide. Sure looks over 40 on the pic, and it wasn't even too much of a Josh style photography... :D Just a lil'... :D She weighed 38#, beating my previous pb for only 1/2 lbs. Still... baaaaaaaah :cheers1: |
I don't see a gaff hole. Was it a melon shot? Plus, Sitting on the rail that close to the water with no game clip or rope thu it's gills is dangerous.
Nice fish. Reminds me of a guy that only had a few minutes left in a tourney to get one to the scales. :D |
There are anglers that catch legals...then there are anglers that catch LEGALS!!!
|
How long was she? The base of the tail looked really wide which made it look damn heavy. Amazing how much a little difference in thickness can change the weight. A great catch none the less. :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:

Sweet PB, WTG.
|
nice one !
:cheers1: |
Where do I sign up for one of those?
|
Sweet Adi. Congrats.

Been there, done that - this guy was only 1/2# lighter http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...5/halilamb.JPG Greg, sorry forgot to measure how long she was... :( Quote:
Very good point, it is dangerous. The pic wasn't straight out of the water... She was bleeding, locked in the hatch for good 15 mins before we took the pic... :) Baaaaaaaaah.... |
This report must be false! Flatties that big don't exist down here! Must have been caught in Alaska or something. Jk that is a honky beast of a crap stain. Congrats
