Free Prowler 13

4 Attachment(s)
Well, after 12 years of faithful service, I have upgraded from my Prowler 13 to a Trident 13.

I would like to get rid of my Prowler while giving one of our local heroes a chance to get into this great sport. Here's the deal. I will give away totally free of charge my Prowler 13, including seat and paddle and various other add ons to the first active duty military person who wants it and is able to get to Mission Viejo to pick it up.

As mentioned before, she is about 12 years old and well used. She is not too pretty but entirely sea worthy, and water tight. She is plumbed and wired for a bait tank, including an in hull 500 gpm Tsunami pump, if you have the desire to build a bait tank. She has the normal built in rod holders and one Scotty mount and one Ram mount should you have the desire to add more holders or sonar. As on many of the early Prowlers, I developed some pin hole leaks in the keel area from dragging it over sand and gravel. After several repairs by plastic welding, which only worked for a while, I finally fixed it by applying aircraft grade carbon fiber and epoxy on the keel. Now, when dragging it over , it scratches the asphalt.

I want to give a very special thanks to Andy (Iceman) at OEX. I was at his shop getting some rigging done on my new sled and mentioned my plan to give my old one to a local hero, he was quick to donate a seat and paddle to this deal. I will add that he didn't just grab them off the top of his rental seats and paddles. He spent some time digging through his used inventory to pick the ones that would best suit a kayak fisherman.

If you are and active duty service person and want this Prowler 13, and can come pick it up in Mission Viejo in the next couple days, PM me or text or call me at 949-306-2581.

Here's some pics.

Nice!

bpagentkastoll 08-15-2013 06:55 AM

Great timing with all the heroes coming back into country. Saw some on this board looking for info on yaks, gear and good intel for local fishing. Someone is going to score on that deal. Awesome gesture!!

rossman 08-15-2013 07:10 AM

Just wanted to add a thanks to my son Troy (Zed) for getting me into this crazy sport because it's easy (yeah right) safe (yeah right) and inexpensive (yeah right). He gave me his first hand me down Cobra Navigator and then arranged for me to get this Prowler at considerable expense to him. He is in complete agreement in disposing of it in this manner.

danjor 08-15-2013 07:44 AM

Very cool of you to help someone out like this!!!

Hunters Pa 08-15-2013 07:55 AM

OUTSTANDING of both you and Andy!!! Looks like a great seat he threw in.

Tman 08-15-2013 08:01 AM

Rossman,
Nice, :you_rock: and Andy, :sifone:

And we know the yak is fishy.

steveooo 08-15-2013 08:40 AM

I'd be willing to be that kayak has had more fish come over its rails than any other in the OC.

Super cool move Ross :cheers1:

For the guy that picks it up, hit me up. I have an older vittles vault bait tank, 6V battery, and a hand bilge pump you can have.
Steve

Oh come on! You're already in his code group you don't have to ass kiss.
;)

We discussed the options, and this is the best one. I hope it goes to a happy home. It's been a very good boat.

Ddwineguy 08-15-2013 12:58 PM

I have an aluminum gaff and net I will throw in.

Great gesture.

And what's the scoop on those kayak stands? Where would one find a pair like that. Digging those more than my homemade PVC stand.

Ddwineguy 08-15-2013 08:37 PM

Phillip.

PM me and I will get the gaff and net to you. I am in San Diego also

Outstanding gesture, we need more people like you! You rock!

YakAttak 08-15-2013 10:12 PM

That's really kool of you :)

MrPatrick 08-15-2013 10:13 PM

If he/she fishes the bay, PM me, and I'll set them up with plastics and lead heads. May even be able to set them up with an ugly stick rod that's brand new, if they need a med light casting rod, great for rock fish. I don't have a reel for it.

easyday 08-15-2013 10:44 PM

Wow that's awesome.

todd one 08-16-2013 05:17 AM

You're a good man.:luxhello: This is the best post I've ever seen on here.

Irishman 08-16-2013 02:29 PM

Very nicely done!

addicted2sp33d 08-18-2013 08:14 PM

Wanted to thank you guys for being so awesome.

Phillip is trying to figure out why he can't post on this forum, but his user name is KNOTTx.

I saw this post in my first-thing-in-the-morning troll of this forum, and immediately sent Phillip a message to get in touch with you. I suggested to do it fast, knowing how many military types frequent this board.

At first there were some concerns, but I just told him that this forum is not like other places on the Internet and is generally filled with awesome and honorable people who just want to kayak-fish and have a good time.

Thanks again for being a great bunch of people.

And you guys are right, this Kayak is totally fishy.

I took him out to Oceanside Harbor (and a little-bit beyond) this past Saturday.

For the first half of the day, I took my FnD, Phillip and his girlfriend took my tandem, and our friend James took Phillip's new Prowler.

We got to the harbor around 7:00A and launched from the docks just North of the Mini-Pier and made a bee-line straight for the bouy about 1/4 mile outside the outer breakwater.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...04-26_1040.png

The water could not have been flatter. No wind, no waves, just glass smooth.

On this Phillip's Prowler, James immediately caught a crab... Deadliest Catch. The little guy just had the bait in his claws and didn't let go until it was too late.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...liestCatch.jpg

We didn't have any other activity all morning, but we did get some taps and some stolen baits. Then the wind started picking up and Phillip's gf got terribly seasick. To her credit, she tried to fight through it.

She chummed the water a bit and wanted OFF. At that point, we came back into the harbor and dropped her off at the dock. James and Phillip switched yaks and Phillip finally got to try out his new ride.

For the rest of the day, we caught two leopard sharks in the "outer" harbor, and they may have been the same little leopard. They looked damn-near identical.

All-In-All, not too many fish caught, but we all still had a good time, and Phillip is already talking about getting out to La Jolla Kelp. :) I think we have another convert!

Thanks again for being such great people! :you_rock:

Peter

Rossman,

Just want to say thank you again for handing her down to me, couldn't ask for more. Took her out this past weekend and it's an awesome ride! I plan on continuing this tradition but until then it's time to get her fishy. Thanks for all the military support from all the forum members. We may not act like it all the time, but a simple "thank you for your service" means the world to us. So again, thank you Rossman and BWE for beginning an awesome tradition!!!

Rossman, I just wanted to say what an awesome gesture you did for another service man!! Thank you!

rossman 08-19-2013 08:01 AM

Hey Phillip,

I'm glad you were able to get out this week end. I'm sure it was the first of many excursions. Like I told you, if you and your buddies ever want to hit Dana Point, I can probably put you on some fish there.
If you eve need any kayak rigging supplies, be sure to keep the guys at OEX kayak shop in mind, as they were quite generous in donating the seat and paddle.
When it comes time for you to move on to another duty station, or you decide to upgrade, be sure to give one of your buddies a good deal on the Prowler as long as she floats.

Good luck and keep in touch
