For those that are going to jump on this don't forget that all you get for that price is exactly What's pictured, you still need your main line and buoy which is probably another $20.

I 'll add they are selling an additional kit also 20% off. But I'm trying to avoid it... I was going to use the Drake Puck and buy poly rope at home depot for 250 ft at $32 (for 3 nets that ought to work).

This site sells buoy's at the best price I've seen but I may try Fiskadoro's slim bullet float with light

http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ht=bullet+buoy

Yeah there are better ways to do it.

Here's my basic hoop rope setup that I've been using for over a decade.

Here's some shots of the floats.

It looks really complicated but it's not. That's a standard white Promar egg float stuck in the end of some thin walled PVC the whole thing is filled with 2 part urethane foam and on the light end that's just a small plastic container that holds a LED.

Since those shots I've upgraded the nets and made my own conical netshttp://imageshack.us/scaled/landing/...erlights20.jpg

Ive got my set up for the season with custom bait tubes and then drake pucks for backup got my battery powered glow sticks with my new bullet buoys weighted to keep the light in the upright pos. Wife got me 2 brand new full set ups for my birthday today.

These have worked for me as floats for 3 seasons now, drop a glow stick in and it lights the whole thing up.

X2, going on 6 seasons for us, using this type of floating lighting system.

We use a cable tie from the jug to a plastic extension cord holder (wrap all excessive rope around it) but our original system of sliding buoys with reflective tape is between the jug/wrapped rope, and the net. It's probably overkill, we know, but we've never lost a net, yet, and that's counting the days following the Japan Tsunami, that sent major sea level changes over here. We're talking 5 foot depth changes in SD bay in less than 10 minutes. We nearly lost 2 nets that day as they were dragged about 50 yards for 1, and well over a 100 yards for the other, from where we left them. Without the overkill of jug & buoy, we're sure we'd have been out 2 nets that night. Many others were dragged from their original placements that night. If we were to pick one over the other, instead of doubling up, we'd chose the jug/glow stick combo, over the sliding buoy/reflective tape. Generally speaking the jugs are easier to locate, but on occasion when using a flashlight to find your net, that reflective tape can be very noticeable at a long distance.

Yea I do the whole sliding bullet buoy with light and reflective tape and my 220 lumen surefire makes that tape real easy to see at a distance.

If i was looking for sea lion repellent id bring out the good old .300 Win Mag. haha if only.... I stick to the good ol' painball gun I have the super cheap BIG5 gun W/ disposable CO2 container. Biodegradable and non toxic and in no way shape or form could injure the sea lion, Its just a nuisance to them and they leave ya alone after a couple shots in their general direction.

DocHaole 09-16-2013 10:00 PM

I have seen a bunch of guys that put the LED glow stick on the top of the bullet float and weight the bottom. I am thinking of trying that setup as they stand out better than in the jug.

Anyone have advise on setting this up correctly?:lobster:

easyday 09-17-2013 06:11 AM

Thats exactly how I have mine set up I use a bolt for the weight at the bottom and drill a hole for the stick it works really well

StinkyMatt 09-17-2013 05:30 PM

I heard rebar makes really good cheap weights. :D

Found a similar design on the site and began an inexpensive hoop-net rack using 1/2 PVC.

Raskal311 09-21-2013 06:41 AM

What brand hoops are those?

Listing says it is the Hoop Net With Rigging kit, But this does not come with the rigging kit, it is a separate purchase. Over all The hoop nets are good but are not what was advertises for the price.

easyday 09-26-2013 07:37 PM

I think he was expecting the rope and bullet buoy because the promar nets dont come without the stuff pictured.

I think the rigging kit they speak of is the bridal and bridal float which is included in the ambush net which there wording makes it sound like it includes the ambush rigging kit which it doesn't. Still a good deal for the net. My sports chalet was out too....

Beat me to it

DocHaole 09-26-2013 09:22 PM

Better to have no rope at all then for it to come with that crappy red rope that comes rigged on some of the flat nets.

I love how after the guy complains about the net rigging, then goes on to say that the net works great. Same exact setup you will find at the tackle shop.

What you need to do is setup every single net then stack them on the PVC rack, that'll give you a better idea of how they're going to stack up

Yea since once you add the float bait cage and rope to each net they really don't stack that well. I'm thinking about using a clip so i can detach my float and rope from the bridal ring for easier storage on and off the water. Just switched to using extension cord holders for my rope, spent 5 hours untangling untwisting 750 feet of rope, my shoulders are sore and I haven't even pulled up a net yet

Ahh ok, so I think I got a pretty decent deal at $27 OTD.

Shackle

Danjor...Try using a 3/16 galvanized shackle instead of a "clip" or aluminum carabiner. The shackle simply screws together rather than relying on the thin steel spring that closes most clip type connecters. That steel spring rusts out eventually and the clip or carabiner will stay open. I was hooping at Catalina with another guys gear last season and I watched an Ambush net sink away as the carabiner was slightly open and the rope slipped out!
Also try placing the floats inside along the sides of the nets, alternating their positions as you stack them and they may fit a little better. I can easily fit 5 Ambush nets with ropes and floats attached on my pvc rack. Having to access your ropes and attach them could be a PITA while you are on the water, especially if it's windy or rough. I'd have my gear ready to go unless you are in a skiff or power boat.

That's exactly what I do when I stack my nets.

Here's a pic of how my lines are setup

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-X...927_085810.jpg

Also make sure that all of your lines are feed through the buoy in the same direction, it'll make it easier to figure out which side to pull.

Saba Slayer 09-27-2013 08:38 AM

Rigging

Rig all your nets the same way...pointed side of the float into the wind current and swell and the flat side of the float downwind with the excess rope on that side...that way when you grab your rope you won't disturb the net and scare your bugs and crabs. Be sure to put a distinctive pattern of DOT tape on the flat side of the float so it's easy to find.
