Baja report
Spent a week kayak fishing in Bahia Asuncion in 75 degree weather, crystal clear water with four other Big Water Edgers. I'm sure they will report soon.
First day, I nailed a 38 lber on iron with a Avet JX 6/3. My wife had just gotten me a Gopro for Xmas so this was the first time I used it. She did all the editing - it took some 7 minutes total before I had color on 12 lbs of drag. The tails down there are super mean!! The drive down was super beautiful and uneventful (except for a minor detour north of Ensenada), lobsters plentiful and I cant wait to fish with those guys again!! Be sure to click on 720p for High Def!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=izc6Q6NX7Wc |
Have been waiting for these reports. So wish I could have gone!

Very NICE!!!
What's with the cut right before you gaffed that sucka!? Did something funny happen there you didn't want everyone to see? Hmmmm? Nice Fish!!!:luxhello: |
Great Video!!!
However, the treble hook bouncing around 1" from your leg is:eek: |
Went down there in 2010 with a few BWE guys. Kayaks, Porta-Boats, and Panga.
It was insane fishing. Those yellowtail are MUCH stronger than what we are used to in LJ. Even the little 25 lbers beat you up. My JX 2 speed drag was smoked by the end of the trip. lol Luckily Avet gave us a couple of Pre-production JX Raptors to test out on the trip - much better! On one of the days we all (4 guys) fished on the Panga. For several hours we had Non-Stop 4 Way Hook Ups on these crazy fish. All deep water Yo-Yo fish in 130 - 150 ft. We boated 30 donkey sized fish for our limits (including the Captain and his son) in one day. We lost about 10 fish to the rocky pinnacles - even with the drags buttoned down. There was No indication the wide open frenzy was going to stop. Everyone onboard was whipped but we just could not stop. -At one point I looked over the side and saw a school of fish that was 300 strong. We gave a large share to the local fisherman and their families that night. It was awesome. The following day we packed up our gear and headed to L.A. Bay for a few days to do some fishing. :) More insanity. http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47a0...D720/ry%3D480/ |

Great vid!

Nice ride:luxhello:
|
Food looks awesome. Did y'all catch the lobster or buy it from the locals? That YT took you for a nice ride!
|
I meet some pangueros on the water and offered them a knife. We ended up trading for lobsters. Gotta love Mexican generosity - highly underrated!
|
You had the camera angle for your video dead on. The editing let us feel the power of the fish, and the landing showed the whole story. Thanks for sharing the catch of your PB yellowtail and congrats.
Any other video taken while you were there? |
Sick! Love the Baja sleigh ride that begins immediately when you hook up. :reel:
|
Got a total of 6 Yellows all on video but they're all boring compared to the 40 lber. I fished the boilers and reefs a lot too and got some good sized Calicos that are on video. We tried too for Corbina but they were a no show.

Man that's beautiful. Thanks for sharing. :cheers1:
