Bajapalooza '06

Let's hope the weather cooperates this year, a nasty storm canceled last year's trip. MLK weekend January 14, 15 and 16th

http://www.puertosantotomas.com/

I just wanted to set the date, as a couple people have asked. Any questions, fire away and as we get closer we'll do a roll call and try to organize a caravan.

madscientist 10-20-2005 08:02 AM

I'm in. Should be a blast. Let me know if I can help with anything, Andy.

Holy Mackerel 10-20-2005 08:33 AM

I'm in pending rain, and Chargers playoffs... Love baja!!! 8)

You are a dead man!!! :P  j/k Brad, a quick trip to Colonet, then back up to PST for the festivities?

It sucks, I have to listen to one of my roommates from Denver talk smack all the time....!!

Bolts got a tough schedule, so see ya all in PST! 8)

Chris

Corey 10-29-2005 03:41 PM

MKNOTT 10-30-2005 11:00 AM

I am willing to pay for half the gas for a ride. I have access to the cheapest gas in San Diego upon departure. 8)

kurt 10-30-2005 01:47 PM

I'll be there, yo-yoing for halibut.

swinginFish 10-30-2005 03:45 PM

Andy,

Work is very thick now, but will likely ease up in January. I'm hopin' "Cookie," Jeff S., Cajun and Eagle Eye are in, as I'm hankerin' for a reunion, not to mention want a rerun of Kurt yankin' on somethin' other than - well uh, puffer fish. Thanks for instigating yet again, and hope the weather nymphs smile rather than ____ on the parade.

Razorback 10-30-2005 05:11 PM

Mike -

You can ride down with me and my other Bud. F350 Crew Cab w/ lumber rack. If 3 yaks don't fit - then I'll tow the landscape trailer down which will hold 2 more full size kayaks + shit loads of gear w/ lockable toolboxes.

Talk to me as the trip gets closer. We'll save a seat for ya.

Cris

DESTROYER 10-31-2005 07:19 AM

Are you sure you don't want to change that date? :D I will be in Vegas for my 30th birthday that weekend. I guess you will have to have fun without me. Good Luck!

Hook 1 11-02-2005 02:55 AM

Count me in. I'll bring some wood. I'm going to stay close to Kurt and see if I can't get his butt......I didn't just type that
Maybe the 50 year storm will not show this time.

scwafish 11-04-2005 06:08 PM

Whats biting that time of year?

PAL 11-05-2005 08:05 PM

Sean, PST is a great spot for rockfish. Calico bass too. In past years there've also been some halibut, bonito, and baracuda. I hope you head on down - the company will be great even if the fishing is blown out.

steveooo 11-05-2005 11:01 PM

How many miles one way? If I can only afford gas one way I'll stay down there and meet up with u guys next year. Cost for lodging, can I camp in my truck? Hey, you said fire away...

Holy Mackerel 11-07-2005 07:25 AM

Ensenada is about 68 miles south of the border. Once you pass Ensenada, the KM will start back at zero, the town of Santo Tomas is at about KM 48 after Ensenada, (this is where you turn off on the dirt road on your right heading south, you'll see a sign to Puerto Santo Tomas 31ish KM) The dirt road (this dirt road it will eventually fork: low, and high, take the low to the left) to Puerto Santo Tomas which is about 18 miles. So I think 68 + 29.8 (Km conv.) + 18 = 115.5 miles south of the border.

Hope this helps, and is accurate,

Chris

scwafish 11-07-2005 12:33 PM

PAL-so its pretty much rockies, calicos and sheepshead type stuff? No yellows or WSB? I would love to come, but I am hungry for a gamey fish, I have already whacked a zillion rockies this season.

steveooo 11-07-2005 01:19 PM

Thanks for the info chris. Is there a hotel that everyone will be staying at or are we allowed to rough it? :D

Iceman 11-07-2005 04:54 PM

Steveooo,
Here are some pics.

On the Big waters Edge homepage, under movies there are 2 that were shot in PST.

In the past some guys have grouped up in the bunkhouse, most camped. Look at the webpage.

lamb 11-08-2005 09:21 AM

I’m interested. My parents will be here visiting at the time though. If they end up staying with me that weekend, I won’t be able to join. :( If they end up staying with my sister – I’m game. 8)

Looks like lots of fun.

austin 11-10-2005 02:34 PM

Anyone heading down thursday afternoon or early friday morning?

Dean Machine 12-07-2005 01:08 PM

I'm thinking about a weekend of fishing and how good that sounds. Not sure if I'd be butting in though. :?: Got lotsa room and can cook fish on a fire.

Hook 1 12-07-2005 05:19 PM

Come on down. Just don't bring a generator.

Dean Machine 12-09-2005 05:41 PM

Hook 1,
So far I'm planning on going as long as nothing changes with work. Also planning on camping instead of the bunk house for now. Don't see a need for a noisy generator. 8) Sleep sounds good. OBTW, I bought a battery from you once and I live real close. Lots of extra room in and on my truck for whatever. Kayaks. equipment, passengers etc. Thinking of heading down on friday or EARLY saturday depending on work on friday. Trying to get out early. :D

Jay 12-10-2005 04:36 PM

I would love to join you fellas, if thats ok! I have only meet Corey and Grego! I should have my yak rack by that time. I just gotta see if I have my daughter in that weekend?

JAY

Dean Machine 12-12-2005 06:59 PM

You know what, I'm starting to rethink the whole south of the border thing and I'm not so sure if I am in or not for now. :? I guess it depends on whether or not someone reassures me that this place and the group that is going is good to go. Far away from law and order and close to some corrupt cops and such doesn't seem to appeal to me for now unless I know the people I'm with well enough. I really like the U.S. for now but I might change my mind on going.

Hook 1 12-14-2005 02:59 AM

Dean I'm already riding with another guy. We are going down
early Friday.

lamb 12-23-2005 12:54 PM

I'm no go. :(

My parents will be here.

Froman 12-27-2005 09:31 AM

Camping situation

Question for the veterans of PST: Do I need to make some sort of reservation with the campsite down there? Is first come first serve or plenty of space just pick a spot or ??? Thanks.

I will e mail Sam and let him know the expected number going. There should be no problem if you are just tent camping.

Bing 01-03-2006 10:41 AM

Whos IN?

Me and Jimbo are in for sure. Was interested in leaving friday a.m.

Anybody else?

Hows about a roll call

Bing

Mr_PeaCH 01-03-2006 04:54 PM

Peach here, I'm in w/ 1 or 2 others. We'll be staying in a cabina however. (Too old for these bones to be camping.) Veteran of two PST trips but our first 'palooza. Looking forward.

steamroll 01-04-2006 09:05 AM

My ride fell through
Does anyone have room for one more?

Holy Mackerel 01-05-2006 10:22 AM

I said, I would be in this trip pending rain or Chargers playoffs...

Damn you Brad, for jinxing the Chargers!

Well the Bolts are out, and the weather looks good, so I will be leaving Ocean Beach, CA Thurs night, and fishing through Monday. All work, and muffin passes have been stamped and approved! :P

*Anyone use a reliable online Mexican Auto insurance website? I'd rather bypass having to stop just before the border, it is hell getting back on 5 south.

Chris

PS: Froman see you down there, you better have my money!

cabojohn 01-05-2006 12:08 PM

Try Dicover Baja -
3089 Clairmont Drive
San Diego, 92117
www.discoverbaja.com
(800) 727-2252

I was able to get my annual auto insurance at a good price plus my boat permit & license all online.

Very happy with the service.

John

fishtrapper 01-05-2006 04:51 PM

Chris I have been using discover baja for years and the last time I did the on line thing and it work very well and easy to do. Of course I have never had to use the insurance before and I hope I never do. I think that is when you'll find out how good it is. All and All discover baja has been a great company to work with over the years.

Steve
