Final total after taking out costs and there were very little thanks to all the generosity, the fish from Catalina Offshore and Coca Cola from Jorge to all companies that donated prizes for the winners and the raffle. We raised $5431. Eric had told me that he would match this number and must have had great confidence in us as he brought the check from Geo Group with him and added it to our total for the day $10,431. This will be a hard number to beat next year :D Thank you one and all!

Thanks to Andy, Matt and all the others for putting this together. I'm pumped for next year already. Also thanks for posting up all those weights. I was wondering how I finished overall consider the majority only weighed one fish.

Maybe next year guys could pay more to fish both bass and halibut with aritificials only. Or add a slam prize if you can get 3 or more species(bass and buts would be weighed and others would be photographed.

Iceman 04-19-2015 02:44 PM

Chuck coming in to land.........I see a halibut. :D

Chuck D proved once again that time on the water pays off.

I pulled away from him and less than 30mins later he catches the winning fish.

Halibut fishing is about as exciting as watching white paint dry; You sit, you wait, you yawn, you pray to the fishing God's.

Way to go Chuck!!!

This was my first tournament ever and I'm stoked it was for HOW. I didn't weigh any halibut but I'm ready to sign up for next year's event. Thank you to everyone who organized the event, thank you to the sponsors that helped get such a big turnout, and thank you to HOW for helping our vets.

double p 04-19-2015 07:41 PM

Another awesome event to raise money for a great cause. Had a great time even though I did not manage a legal fish to weigh. Saw some faces to put to the sign in names for the first time. Can't wait for the next event, it is always fun to get to fish and help HOW. Here are a few picts.

Thanks to all of the sponsors! I gave thanks to Joey at Squidco. Tipped the boys on the bait barge. Walked away with the beautiful Seeker rod in the raffle. We should all mention/do our business with our sponsors when possible.

I took a photo of CBad Mike at the end of the day. Looks like he forgot to use sunscreen or something...damn ugly too.

kauaiboy04 04-20-2015 09:20 AM

another great event put on by you folks! I enjoyed my time once again. I had an awesome fishing day, with over 25+ spotties caught, but could only weigh 2. Same placing as last year? i'll take that consistency.

thanks again for putting up a awesome event!

Fish Taco 04-20-2015 09:20 AM

Really bummed I didn't make this event. I was just too under the weather to come down Friday night. Next year for sure! Looks like you guys had a blast, and so glad it was a successful fundraiser for HOW. Andy... you outdid yourself... good job man! Can't wait for next year!!! I'll be there this time!

octico 04-20-2015 09:36 AM

Sorry I missed the event. I had a family emergency. Looks like you all had a great time!

Thank you! HOW, Matt, Mike, Mike, OEX, Andy, Brent, Makobob and all the wonderful sponsors, for helping put these events together. Our vets are very lucky that there are people and organizations, businesses, individuals, that step up big time to help our veterans, HEAL and have some fun. I'm glad that this event was such a success, and it's fitting for you guys that spent so much time and effort organizing this event.

Thank you guys for setting me up with that new gaff. I don't know who's idea it was...but I have a good feeling I know who it is...;) it's awesome and I will definitely put it to good use, getting more fish for the HOW events. Oh and the busy bee gift certificates....Oh boy!!!

Iceman 04-20-2015 04:20 PM

Just to clarify: Jeff B wrapped the rod that Chuck D won in the halibut division, then won the rod that Len wrapped for the bass division. Jeff also won the big bass award. That was a weekend rental of the OEX Sunset Beach PA 17 including trailer, fish finder and livewell. Ron and Ben Tweedt were fishing from this PA17.

Chris, it is the Blade 350 QX2, bought it used from a Hobby shop on E Bay. Got it for $300 complete and the Hero 2 for $80 (thanks to Ashmoz bought 2 for $160)

I set it for taking stills every 5 sec. The Phantom is supposedly much steadier for filming video, but this is pretty cool for low buck aerial shots and pretty easy to fly.

Last year we had over 100 entries and are adding a second halibut division this year. We are also adding a great bunch of raffle prizes. Our goal is to raise $5000 for the Southern California chapter of Heroes on the Water.

Wow!! What a great turn-out. I wish I could have made it. There were some terrific people that donated and helped organized. I gotta make it to this event next year.

h2ofishfo 04-21-2015 09:27 PM

Wow !10g's !!!!! Great cause and awesome turnout I could care less about my 13th place turnout

chris138 04-22-2015 10:27 AM

Dang... a gopro capable drone for 300! Good deal I'm gonna check that out.

I have a Hubsan X4 that I practice with, but the camera is junk and its super shaky. It's good for stunts and terrorizing my neighbors though.

Have you seen the mariner quadcopter? Fully submersible... I want it so bad. Check out this video the guy straight flips it and makes it go fully submerged.
