My First Bluefin in my yak! And first lawndart in waves..no exclamation point

So there I was....Headed out super early today, roughly in water by 515..made bait by 6 a.m., I was sitting on a landmine of Spanish literally pulling them up 3 at a time until those damn dogs got loose and started attacking my gold mine! Anyways had 11 Spanish and one Greenie..got past the corner and threw the Greenie out and wouldn't you know it..ninja dog came out of no where and jacked him. Kept going due west to my spot that I like to fish, dropped a Spanish down, trolled for about 15 minutes, decided to clean my sunglasses and then heard that sweet sound we all dream about my line going ballistic. Let him run for about my typical 8 - 10 seconds clicked the secondary drag off and went to war. I knew that it wasn't a YT by it's strength and the way it was fighting. I was afraid it was going to be a bonito but it took a couple short runs and the drag wore him down so I started hauling line and saw color way down..silver..no yellow..wth? I still thought it was just a monster bonito and didn't even think about BFT. Got him next to yak..SH^& my pants, sank gaff, onboard by 0815..completely dumbfounded by my luck. I looked at my FF and was only 3.1 miles from the launch. My friend had caught one about a month back but was farther out. Anyways, back to reality..put him to sleep, right between the eyes..his mouth came wide open..knew I hit the sweet spot..cut gills out..gut him, and being my first ate his heart..had to get a pic to gross out the wife...cleaned up the yak...started to troll back in. Met someone who also caught one, in 90 feet of water right next to kelp, his buddy caught 30 lbs YT. This 2015 season has been amazing, guess I couldn't have picked a better year to start! Well, gave the rest of my bait to a guy named Matt who was out there for his first time. Ensured I wasn't being tailed by OUR friend Senor Hammer..don't need another case of mass hysteria on the beach..and then in all my glory, and riding high from my BFT catch..drum roll please...proceeded to get sideways in the waves and dump my yak for my first time (2 cherries popped today)..jumped up, flipped my yak over..looked around to see if anyone saw me..which they did :you_rock: Oh well, could of been worse and had bigger crowd on beach I guess ...Hit the store, ice, home, turned man cave into slaughter house, weighed in at 14.5 pounds..33"..cut him up, and then made the seared pepper crusted tuna you see in pic...Amazing..poke in fridge..it was a good day!! And if you see me out there, hit me up..like meeting new people, always a good time! TIGHT LINES MY FRIENDS!:cheers1::cheers1::cheers1:

That is soooooo Awesome Ryan!. I can't believe the great luck you are having. What a year you picked to start kayak fishing LJ. I am sooooo stoked for you, it is so well deserved. Maybe it's the new shirt and hat that gave you the BFT so close to shore. Hope I have some of that luck on Tuesday.Tight Lines Ryan.

It is an excellent reel for live bait fishing. My shimano repair technician says that most kayak fisherman should use spinning reels since they resist the saltwater more than conventional. Guys is Florida use them all the time for inshore fishing. I like using both especially levelwind reels but they are more susceptible to the saltwater environment. Also since I have to use left handed reels for years I only used spinners but now there are more options for left handed conventional. |
Who's the man?
Better than imagined. Congrats on another trophy. Thank you for writing it up. It's great fun reading about the catch and seeing the photos. http://s27.postimg.org/ypfwpo8wz/You_da_man.jpg |
Good stuff there. As long as you jumped up after the crash and yelled "Ta Da" with your arms held up high? Might have been a good thing losing your Greenback early, the Tuna seem to prefer the Spanish at LJ.
|
Bluefin?!?! Nice!!! Trade a pound of bluefin for ten pounds of halibut any day! Jelly! Great catch!
