Not exactly geared to So Cal fishing style other than some fresh water applications and the back bays, but sight fishing in skinny water would be a kick with this. Not a new idea......except for a kayak.

Definately fishing for the Reds in Texas or the trout in Florida. This is the ticket.

linghunter 08-01-2008 08:59 AM

I second that!!!

How about a video camera and one afternoon in La Jolla?

I see tons of fish (Yellowtail) that others just paddle on top of and through. It's funny and sad at the same time. Usually, people paddle over the fish to come over and say "hello". Contrary to popular belief, I don't have "eagle eyes," I just pay attention. Being up on my knees is a huge advantage (being able to see fish or not), and I'm able to see fish others can't. With that much height advantage it would be ridiculously easy to see Yellowtail, ridiculous.

My only question : Is the platform stable enough for typical ocean conditions, without someone in the seat?

lolLMAO

And to recap Josh sees a lot of fish...

dgax65 08-01-2008 01:42 PM

I see that as the ideal fishing platform for the Darkhorse Kayak Fishing Guide Service. The client has to paddle out to the fishing grounds as Josh stands on the tower, scanning for fish. Just like on those fishing shows from the Gulf Coast; Josh would be up in the tower spotting fish and dispensing precious bits of fishing knowledge. And if the client farms a fish, Josh could teabag him.

Am I the only one who had to google "teabagging"? I learned more than I wanted to know. lol

Ditto! I guess I'm old and out of the "know".

I wish I could have gone through life without knowing about such things. Unfortunately, I joined the Navy and learned many things of which I would gladly have remained ignorant. I've witnessed some unspeakable acts perpetrated on the coffee cups of unsuspecting sailors.:ack2: I wish I could say that teabagging is the worst thing that I ever witnessed.......it's not. N

BTW: Never relieve the watch late and then make the mistake of leaving your white hat unattended.

lollollol lollol

Of coarse, for a pretty hefty additional charge $$$. Now if somehow I could attract beautiful women instead of middle aged men for clients, the extra fee could be waved. :D

On a serious note, I freaked when I saw this product on Bloody Decks. This is the best thing for kayak anglers since the Mirage Drive. My previous post on the tower is in no way a poor attempt to "pat myself on the back", more of an attempt to point out the huge advantage of being elevated. Even guys who can barely see (I know a couple), would be coming in with Yellowtail daily, not monthly, or a couple random times a year by accident.

If anyone wants to set up a healthy wager (anyone), I'm willing to bet a Yellowtail would be caught the first time out. Think of how much fun the side bets could be, for those not immedietly involved. Give me a sunny mid-week day, without a ton of clueless boaters, and I'm willing to take some cash $$$ from anyone, yes anyone. If this thing works in typical ocean conditions, I'm getting one, no matter the price.

I hope the dude on top does not suffer to badly from sea sickness, otherwise the paddler will have a new hair shampoo :hmmmm2:

h2ofishfo 08-02-2008 08:27 AM

tea bagging is childish the dirty sanchez is more manly lol

Salt Water Flies 02-12-2012 06:06 AM

Hi I'm new to the forum and kayaking. Just purchased my first kayak to take a trip to Florida. (An Ascend FST12) I have been saltwater fly fishing for about 10 yrs. I have a question about the X-tower. Can a lone kayaker step up on the platform or does it require a paddler beneath to counter balance?
:reeling: Thanks for any replies.
Tony

The Xtower actually never went into production.

I would say that with some custom fabrication you could make one easy enough to get on and pushpole yourself. Or take a look at the Stand and Fish system.

William Novotny 02-12-2012 09:57 AM

I can't wait to see someone get ripped off the top of one of these by a 40# yt. :ack2:

Mr. Adventure 02-12-2012 12:55 PM

Maybe climb up there spot, cast then jump down for stability?
