I heard that there was going to be a design change on the Hobie tank. Any truth to that?

Only difference I see is that you are getting longer run time with a 6V 10ah rather than the 6V 8ah

The charger is quicker at 1.5 amp rather than .5 amp

Ive got a battery that wont hold its full charge anymore and a switch that is way too tempermental, other than that it works great:biggrinjester:.

Does Oex stock the Hobie batteries w the quick connect along w the "new" switches? Can I buy the connectors for the batteries seperately?

Possibly, but the battery that hobie uses is actually just a generic type battery from a UPS (un-interruptible power source), the same with the FF batteries we use. These batteries will be available for a long time. Fry's carrys a large selection.

A few other guys and I have actually been running the "new" 10AH bait tank battery for at least a year now...its bitchen!!! it fits perfectly with no mods, and when running continiously, it can almost outlast me on the water (~12-14+hrs).


The batteries from Hobie come with the quick dis-connect already installed.
They sell the plug, but it usually has to be ordered. IMO its cheaper to by the pe-made hobie battery than trying to buy one from fry's and putting the connector on...you will also need a soldering iron. I did it because hobie didn't offer the 10AH at the time.

As for that fickle switch....ditch it!
Just hard wire your battery directly to your pump, so when the battery is plugged in the pump runs. I've tried packing the switch with di-grease, and tried some of the other "marine" switches...about the longest they would last is 2-3months (~30trips). With the 8AHr battery I get about 8-9hrs run time, with the 10AHr I get about 12-14hrs run time. As long as you keep your battery/plug dry and lubed with di-electric grease it will last a long time.
The sunami pumps seem to hold up pretty well and only seem to fail after around 5-600hrs run-time in saltwater, but they are cheap to replace ($25).

Who needs bait anyway?? :p

Come on Jeremiah 10AH is so last year, Interstate has the 12AH 6V that is housed in the same sized casing as the 10AH. My macs ride first class. :sifone:

First you pull a super hog outta the kelp right after I went to work.

Then you find a new, more bitchen battery.....and don't tell me.

Then you show up at the launch late on a cold, windy, choppy, morning only to turn around to snuggle back into bed while we go get soaked only to shred 20' of flouro and get slimed by a million barries.

Then you show up the very next morning and rope a donkey YT....WTF? and I thought we were friends....
