what wheels do you use?
 

So I'm beginning to look into a new set of wheels. looking at the Hobie trax 2 cart, or the wheeleez beach cart. I currently have a Hobie Quest but with all the talk of a new PA coming in Sept. the darker side of the dark side my get a new member. Anyone have either, what are the pros / cons. I have been scouring the web for a month or so now and its time to turn to the "experts" to make my final decision. Anyone interisted in a group deal?

Can't have your bait tank installed if you used the Scupper wheel cart....

I use the first ones. Got them at REI, waited for the 20% off coupon deal. They are great for la jolla (no 4WD here).

Sure you can. I do it all the time.I have a Tunataxi custom crate behind me and the bait tank behind that. The key is getting your hands on a crate, but the guy that makes them is very sketchy at best. :biggrinjester:

i have the hobie wheelez. i like them but the tire pressure doesn't keep very well. ericko bought the hobie trax one, i really like the wheels, but the width seems big to me, although ericko doesn't seem to mind.
one of the things that i like about the one that i have is i can fit it into the front hatch by taking off the wheels. the wheels have a quick release style hub so it is very convenient to do so.

Pretty sure Ryan means a Hobie tank as the fittings for it go down the scuppers.

How do those do in soft powdery sand, The Knobby ones from HF are terrible.

Those looks like they would dig into the sand in no time.

I ordered them from Wheeleze and made the cart from 1" PVC, some old surf pads and strap and there you have it . the axle iss 1/2" solid aluminum, I can fully load that kayak and center the load onn thecart and it pulls like a dream.. thru soft sand, I have another set of wheels for when I go up north for the hard pack around the lakes , The cart beaks down and stores in the kayak even the wheelezes fit inside, quick release on the wheels, :D

Well worth the money for the wheeleze, I debated that issue for a while but glad I did ... no regrets. no back ache either...:cool:

These wheels are the next size up from those smaller wheels on the hobie carts They have a higher weight cap. and dont plow into the sand at all, maybe a 1/2" depression if that.

cons on hobie wheelez . you need 2 peps to get wheels back in scupper holes. one to lift yak , and second person to install. you have to be careful installing. easy to damage scupper hole on yak. i tore a big hole when i first got my yak . had to have it replaced. make sure you put locking pin in after inserting legs of wheels to prevent slippage and damage , ie like when going up curbs or stairs. .

I would have to agree on the Hobie wheels in the scupper holes. A bit difficult if you are by yourself. I have to tip the kayak on the side to get them in on my own, which means anything you don't have tied down comes out.

my kayak came with hobie cart but has weeleez tires. this setup works great in the sand. I don't have bait tank though. lean the kayak over to put cart on:farmer: the carts here http://www.wheeleez.com/beach-wheels-pvc.php seem cool but I don't like the strap setup.

I've had my cart and those wheels for over 9 yrs--and speaking from
real experience and miles of sand pulling--they're second best
to the Wheeleeze.

I have not been able to find just the wheels alone. $60.00 per wheel is budget friendly.

POWER WHEELS
 

Have you looked into Power Wheels? They are the ones that fit on battery powered toy cars that the kids rise around on.

If you yard/garage sale at all look for a used Power Wheel. Mine you it does not have to run, just make sure the wheels are in good condition. I had made my last cart with a set and sold a pair of 10" wheels on these forums for $20. They work great on soft sand and hard pack. You can search my posts under the sale section to see the ones I sold.

Beaches in Santa Barbara are nice every summer, and deep in sand parking a little farther from launch, thats why i invested in myself..:cool:
