Please help Mounting a fishfinder
Looking for ideas on mounting a fishfinder on my hobie outback I have a transducer that has to be mounted outside due to the down imaging and ideas or thoughts or maybe ideas the fishfinder is a hummingbird 597ci?

I'd suggest a Mad Frog Gear Liberator with a Scotty mount. Easy to set up before fishing and you can quickly get the transducer out of the water when needed. Here's mine on my old Manta. Now I'm using the track system with my T140 to mount it. Speaking of track systems, Maybe a Yak Attack Gear Trac with the Liberator?

I have a mad frog gear liberator is every one mounting ther FF on the side in there hobie outbacks VS the sail mount?
|
The sail mount is a little too far forward for you to easily press the buttons on the screen. Yes, some people can reach there but unless you have some kind of an extension to make it come towards you the side mount is easier access. Many guys will mount a small ram ball on the side just in front of the built in rod holder. You still want to be able to paddle and jump into and out of your yak during surf launches.
With respect to others that use the Mad Frog, I tried it and did not like it. Too much crap/ kelp gets hung up on it. I want less things to worry about on my yak, not more. The fact that you get a "perfect" water temp....well will it really change your fishing if you are 2 degrees off? Good luck. |
i have a 597 ci hd di and the transducer is mounted as a shoot through hall.
as long as you dont have sidescan shoot through will work. http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/a...109121713a.jpg |

So your Humingbird with down imaging shoots threw the hull no problem? Can u send a couple more pics Thanks |
yes, humminbird states that the transducer will shoot through hall.
i will send you some better pictures hopefully. i used closed cell foam to make a well and used super lube (high temp grease) made by peramatex for the medium. |

My HB 597ci di is installed just like roadx, except I used a thicker foam, then stick a chopstick just aboved the transducer (thru the foam) , then use a bungee cord and a small piece of foam to press down the transducer.
Work pretty good for the only one time since I changed to it. I was using liberator transducer arm before, and had to clear the kelps many times a day in LJ. |
So I will need marine goop to put the transducer in and a sturdy piece of foam?
|
i gooped down the foam but i dont suggest gooping down the transducer. i prefer to use grease between the transducer and haul. goop has a tenancy to form bubbles which is not good for a good sonar signal
here a link that use's the HB install kit <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/g5bpvhvlBtM?version=3&feature=player_detailpage">< param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/g5bpvhvlBtM?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object> |
What kind of grease I'm new to this never hooked up a transducer to a kayak like that I have a mad frogs liberator on my other kayak and that's all Ive done
|
any kind of grease works but if you get i high temp grease it wont run when it gets hot. i have used axel grease and super lube. the grease makes a vacuum to the haul and the transducer wont drop out when the yak is up side down.

I bought "MasterPro hi temp disc brake wheel bearing grease" from O'Reilly Auto Parts for like 4 or 5 bucks for 1 lb can pakage.
