My first bait tank build
Finally got the green monster totally fishable with the completion of my bait tank. Thank you Andy at OEX Sunset beach for your time and insight.
Decided to make a huge leap and go straight for the through hull system and here is how she turned out. Standard 3.6gallon petfood container http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_075746.jpg 90° angled pvc elbow http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_075805.jpg Another shot of the inside. Nozzle angled down at a 45° to slow down the current a bit. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_075824.jpg http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_075852.jpg Here is the 500gpr tsunami pump installed. I used marine goop on all seals then reinforce the pump with jb weld For added strength. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_144351.jpg Heres the hose running back to the tankwell. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_143357.jpg Another fitting in the tankwell leading to the intake on the tank http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_143241.jpg Should work well. Ill try it on tuesday. Havent put anything into electrical yet. Ill have a deck mounted rocker switch installed soon. http://i1225.photobucket.com/albums/...225_143241.jpg |
Looks like a lot of goop inside the hull. Did you rig a bilge pump too? :cheers1:

Just gooped alot of jb weld around the airator pump to be safe. It was hard to get inside to do a really clean job.
|
Excellent job... hoping pump is located where you can get to it on the water as impeller will cease with weed at some point and you will need to clear by removing "engine" from houseing! JB weld means the houseing can never be removed without damage to unit!
|
he can still pop the top and clear the impeller, and replace the motor cartridge if ever needed. JB weld just around bottom. I prefer 5200 as it flexes. jb weld is almost like bondo. Still you should be good to go as long as you tightened down the strainer.
|
Yea, its evident impeller unit can be removed when not in the water, but is there access to remove in the water when needed!!!!! If you can't clear impeller when jammed while on the water the bait tank becomes a non factor...

looks slick

This is my first build so I dont speak from experience but I did my homework and I feel that this will work well. The houseing is in an area that is accessible for maintnance. time on the water wil be the test but for now I'm confident with the design do to the number of people I see using it. The jb weld was to put my mind at ease in case it gets bumped on the water.

Stupid question but I don't know...
Is this an aerator or bilge pump? And which one is proper for kayak bait tanks? One more... For a smaller tank wouldn't something like 60-90 gph be plenty? |

2nd. The pump is not on 100% of the time so its not actually moving that much water. You turn it on for 10 minutes every 15 minutes or so or put it on a timer |
