Need a real quick knot answer

Best knot for splicing braid to braid of similar diameter. Thanks!

GLUE ;)

Try the crazy alberto....I likes' it.

William Novotny 03-12-2012 05:14 PM

Me likes it too. Simple and strong....now where do I apply the glue?

Billy V 03-12-2012 05:16 PM

Tie an 8 turn Uni to Uni for a Braid to Braid Connection.

-Optional
If you place a drop of spectra glue on the knot afterwards its bulletproof.
Not necessary, but bulletproof.
---------------------------

On one of my reels I have 3 sections of spectra line tied together with Uni to Uni knots. I have been using this reel a minimum of 2 days a week for an entire year fishing Rock Fish in Mexico weekly, then Cbass in the bushes on all night trips to LJ, IB, etc. and I have not broken any knots.

Even when I snag my hook, or weight down in 400 ft. of water I first try to rip it out using the Boat.
-Still no knot failures.

Take your time when tying it, and make sure all the coils are lined up when its cinched down.

The quickest is loop to loop with two surgeon loops. Strongest loop to loop using two loops made with bimini twists. Others use uni to uni, personally I double the line with a surgeons loop then splice the doubled lines with a blood knot.

The Crazy Alberto knot is used for tying a leader to spectra.
Fluro to Spectra, or Mono to Spectra, but not Spectra to Spectra.

---------------------------------
As Jim said you can tie a 4 turn Surgeons Loop in each of the Spectra lines, and make a Cats Paw Connection with the loops.
3 or 4 passes to create the cats paw is very strong.

I know a few commercial guys make the connection that way.

Simple to tie and very strong.
-----------------------------------
Lately if I want to make a Spectra to Spectra connection I make a Splice.
I use a 12 ft. piece of 100 lb. Hollowcore Spectra and using a latch needle I pull a doubled section of 65 lb. Spectra up into it.
6 ft. on each side, then tie an over hand knot on the ends to create the finger trap.
-The strongest piece of line on the reel. :)

Wouldn't a Bimini to Bimini loop connection be a good one as well?

Yes... no doubt... Bimini's are excellent ways to splice, just hard for most to tie. Bimini is all I use on eighty or above. Loop to loop gives an advantage in that you can undo it, and replace sections of line without a retie.

On my big game gear I like to run three sections of spectra. A hundred yards of solid (red) spectra as, backing bimini loop to loop connected the main bulk of solid spectra (yellow) as well with a bimini loop at the end, and that is connected loop to loop to fifty feet of hollow blue JB spectra which is then spliced directly to the fluoro leader. I carry a bunch of these blue sections that are like long leaders, and I can just change them out loop to loop if they get trashed. The beauty of it is that I don't have to make any hollow to fuoro spectra splices on the boat, the fish only see the less obvious blue, when you get them to the gaff you can put more pressure on them with hollow, and at the other end if a fish strips you down to the red, you not only know you're in trouble, but have a good indication of just how much time you have left before you're spooled.

Right on as usual! Billy you really know your rigging.:cheers1:

Yeah the nice thing abut the surgeons loop is it's easy to tie and unlike with the Bimini you can do it in the dark. I have no idea but tough I find that knot reduces the strength of mono but it seems to work much better with spectra, and if tied right seems pretty much 100%

Wow, this got really deep while I was gone. Thanks guys. I tied the crazy alberto knot because it was the first response to the thread and I was in a hurry, but for what I am fishing for with 50# braid in 140' of water I'm sure this knot will hold. Or im too lazy to strip the line off my reel and retie it. Thanks for all the knowledge and insight, you guys really know your chit.

@jim your bobbers looking siiiiiiiiick

Uni Uni knot I recommend 8 to 10 loops on each side. It works!

Jimmyz123 03-13-2012 06:20 AM

I love this knot. I learned this on an overnight trip once and use this for my leaders to braid, flrour, and mono. Very simple and it does not slip.
