LJ 5/29
Got on the water after taking my kids to school. Headed out side and south of the condo. Not many boats or yaks out and little sign of birds. Anoying dogs kept following me so it was tough/impossible to fish a bait. Water was purple clear. Around 1:00 saw 2 big spots of breezing YT just sort of milling around under the surface. Made 2 good cast with the iron and had maybe 50 yellows follow the jig back to the boat with no hits or bumps. Not productive but super cool to see. The fish looked a bit smaller than the YT that have been in LJ lately so maybe a new group of fish have moved in. Ended up messing with some small cuda at the kelp line and came on it. Loads of boats and choppers looking for the lost diver. Saw a pod of Risso's dolphins that dove about the time I dug my camera out. Only seen them a few times befor. Seen YT my last 5 trips to LJ, getting closer I suppose. Mike

Thanks for the timely YT possibility report...maybe in a few weeks huh

THANKS
Nice of you to post a quick report. Gives us an idea of whats out there. What area of LJ did you see the yellows?
|
i was out there yesterday 7am-1pm. Mac ended up spun around a single stringer and when i was hovering over it there was a YT darting around trying to get him. Ended up cutting the line cuz there was a slim-to-none chance of getting the YT if he got the mac. I was directly facing the tall white building north of the first big kelp bed.
No problem making bait. Mac were a dime a dozen. |
These are excellent things to talk about. Sounds exactly like the reports from the nados before they went off last week. I'll be out there Saturday, fly-lining and jiggin'!!
Tight lines to ya. |
