Anyone here shrimp on a Yak before?

How would one do it from a yak? I get a small amount from shore.

I know spots prawns are in real deep water 500 +
But they are good eating! :cool:

I tried using a 6 foot cast net from a little canoe back in the tidal areas of North Carolina. It is difficult from a standing position but can be done. Sitting down would be a challenge.

Post up photos if you do.

I agree Spot Shrimp are tasty, but probably not be practical given the depth.

I was thinking about getting a prawn trap and using it to catch shrimp for bait...

Sheepshead comes to mind, also Opaleye, etc.

Not practical here, but they do fish for them in the Pacific NorthWest out of kayaks. I was just reading last week on a British Columbia Kayaking forum about guys who would drop shrimp pots on the way out to fish for Lings, then retrieve them on the way back in. I suppose you could do crab pots that way too in locations where they are shallow enough.

I used a cast net from a kayak in NC, and your right Matt, its a bit tough. We dont have shallow water shrimp in CA. The are spot prawns and coon stripe shrimp, as well as the little salad type pink shrimp but they are all deep water dwellers. Sadly, Put your yak on the top of your car and drive to seafood city.
