Anyone use the Jackson Cuda ?
Just wondering if anyone In San Diego fishes this Platform?
I have a trident 13 but want to make the Switch to the Jackson cuda found a great deal on one with a rudder any input? I was going to go hobie again Owned a pro angler and outback but these constant knee issues are keeping me from pulling the trigger again. thank you Oscar:kayak-surfer: |
PAL donated one to HOW SoCal and while it is a very nice boat, I see it as more of a flatwater kayak as has everybody who has paddled it.

Thanks for the reply people out here use them regularly in the gulf of mexico Im just not sure how the waters here differ from the water there in cali.
I dont like the seats that most sit on top kayaks use.. |
Ahh you didnt fill out your Location information in your Profile so I figured you were local, that does make a difference.
You are right, Gulf Coast guys love them. Water is generally a lot more calm there and surf isnt what we have here. Gulf/Bayou coast is probably the biggest market for the Cuda. |
I apologize Im currently in florida but will be moving to San diego next month. seems my options are limited if I don't want a typical kayak seat.
thanks for responding |
How would you compare it to the trident 13?
I like everything about it except my seat options. even with the surf to summit expedition I was disappointed. |

The seat is designed to be in the up position only when you get to your spot definitely not for going through the surf.
My complaint isn't necessarily with the trident I love the yak . Its fast stable and layed out well. Its more on the seat style where your sorta cacooned in. It doesn't matter what seat I try, either my legs will go numb or my lower back aches after about an hour. I didn't have this problem with my Pro angler or my Native propel seat. I ended up ordering a Jackson Cuda 14 with the rudder from factory. I couldn't pass the deal up it was under $1200 including everything even shipping wanted one of the sweet colors but only their last olive color was on sale . Im going to keep both yaks for now if I don't like the way it performs I can sell it here in the gulf coast and keep the trident till i find a better option . Ill post back here with feedback once I get it Save some fish for me! thanks for the advice Oscar |
In case some of you arnt familiar with it this is the kayak i'm asking about
anther thing I like about it is that its made here in the USA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mf8WMjpiaiA&lr=1 |

FYI, Most the manufactures do make their boats in the US (Wilderness/Confluence- SC, Ocean kayak/Johnson- ME, Malibu and Hobie- SoCal) |
thanks, ill have both boats here unfortunately one will be sold before I move so i wont be able to try them both in cali waters but at least i can try them side by side and make a decision .
thanks all |
