Newbie!
Hello all, I used to surf fish and got into kayak fishing a couple months ago. I've been fishing Tidelands on a weekly basis and finally got the balls hit LJ tomorrow. I have a Cobra Fish n Dive with a Fish Finder, and no bait tank... Should I go get one today? Any other necessities you'd recommend besides landing net, Gaff, and sabiki? Any advice on a good depth or structure to look for? Sorry first time going out... thanks in advance! :reeling:

Hmmm... Maybe I'll head out too.
Take along some frozen squid. It will help you catch bait and you can use it as bait if you can't catch any. As for bait tank... It's great to have but people get away without them. Catch a mackerel and pin it on your line. Easy. I have a bait tank built in but I've read posts of what some are using to keep their bait like bait tubes. Look around on here for options if you don't have the budget right now. As for tomorrow... You can get away without one. Maybe I'll see you out there, Mike I forgot to add... Make sure you know where the boundaries are. |
Take your rain gear it's gonna be wet!!

Hey Alex, I'm not sure. I just looked at the water in Carlsbad. And it's looking a little rough.

welcome!
i also have a fNd and love it. there are a few options you have in regards to bait tank. buy one; several options with varying prices build one; many different builds out there using buckets, dogfood bins, water coolers, pvc pipes...all depends on how you are with making stuff. you can make tons of accessories for your yak; carts, racks, rod holders, anchor trolley, light/flag posts...even outriggers, trolling motors have been added to fNd and other nice yaks. check the innovations thread for ideas http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ead.php?t=6394 and then there's gugel |
