What are your "Must Have" items when going out kayak fishing
I know this is something we all do, however for some of the newbies out there getting into this sport, or fishing period I thought maybe if we all listed some of the "Must Have" items that we take with us, it may help others.
PFD paddle FF gaff(bay and ocean, you never know what you will catch) seat whistle knife pliers braid line cutters bait tank sunscreen radio VHF sunglasses hat Obviously the fishing gear I will need or use waterproof cell phone case pump in the event I'm taking on water If I think of more I will list them. Looking forward to seeing what you all post up. |

Jimmy, I think you have it covered and yes, leashes for everything! Not a matter of if but when. You will get wet!

Unfortunately I don't use it on every trip, but often I find a game clip is pretty helpful.

Thats a good list. I cameupwith a few more that I try to have handy.
Plenty o water and a few granola bars. 1 or 2 fish securing clips or stringers. Gunny sack or towel to wet and keep your fish cool. Big bin, ice chest, or huge trash bag to hold your catch for the drive home. I have a small wagon so this is important. Some folks like to bring a garden sprayer to give gear a fresh water or salt cutting rinse. I bring a household sized spray bottle on trips to mexico when I'm days and miles away from a hose. I can't afford to buy my gear twice. It depends on the season but a paddleing jacket, light polar fleese, and beenie can really save a trip. Mike |

Have a net
Don't forget a net.
It's actually in the regulations (Page 46 28.65.d) DFG officer was cool enough not to ticket me a while back but I never go out without one now. |

DO NOT bring Myoplex as a snack. I did that once and will never forget how it shortened my time on the water. Wife was being nice enough to pack a snack for me.

Great lists but I have 2 more important things on my list that I haven't noticed above: 1) cheap hand held compass (when the fog rolls in and no gps) and 2) be sure to kiss the wife before you leave (good for a few extra hours or an extra day otw)!
