Night fishing La Jolla.
 

I don't expect anyone to give up secrets or anything, but I want to go out night fishing for WSB. Any one have any pointers for me? The waters been staying around 59 so I'm waiting for it to warm up a few degrees. How importent is the moon phase for night fishing WSB? Should I fish the kelp or just out side it or the dropoff?
Also it's scary out there at night by your self. Anyone else want to give it a go let me know, we can set it up. Any tips or advice is appreciated . thank you

i was out last night por nada.

its not intimidating if the weathers nice and the moon is out.

i usually drop some dead bait while i try to jig up some squeeds.





of course ive been out at 230 with 6 foot seas. by myself. that was ZERO FUN.

post up a date. you thinking late afternoon or early morning?

water temp. is fine. the fish are there. go super later (rather than early). get on the water around 11pm and fish through the next day. more time on the water during the night makes for a better experience. there's nothing more frustrating than finally finding a spot and setting up a drift only to have the sun come up and boats crowd you out.

Bring a thermos full of coffee!

Bring a buddy.

Bring warm clothes, or a change if you expect to be wet. Nothing worse than being cold and wet out there.

Get there early enough .....earlier than that to make squid And be set up to fish well before gray light. Some guys fish through the night.

Bring some fresh dead just in case you can't make bait.

Hang a squid while you are making more squid.

Put on a sumo glow jig with a couple of squid on it down there.

Many fishermen say that a couple of days before, during and up to a few days after a full moon is premium time. Some other guys say the opposite:confused:

Make fun of your friends on the radio to fill in the hours of not getting a bite.

I have never tried the above steps but I know a guy that did.

Speaking from experience:

Wear an extra layer even on summer nights. I was fortunate enough to experience one of those 'I can handle it' nights at LJ and let me tell you, it wasn't fun.

Make sure all of your batteries have a full charge, especially your VHF, cell phone and sonar/gps.

If Team Sewer is fishing the area stay off channel 69, it'll make your fishing experience a lot more enjoyable.

Night time's a trip, definitely not for everyone. Getting wet while launching then cold later has brought my baby ass in a few times. I love to set up before sundown but that makes it a long night if you also plan on fishing the morning. I bring an extra bait tank battery. Chase coke classics with a steady sip of Five Hour through the night. Bean and cheese burrito with plenty of hot sauce.

If there were zero bites and it sucked, I say I'll never do that sheet EVER again...

But then if I get a quality shot, maybe lucky enough to land a fish, it's the best and all of the shitty times get wiped from my memory...I've never tried crack but I'm thinking it's a similar compulsion...:drool5:

Also remember to dim your FF, so that your eyes acclimate to the darkness.
...and if you bring a bean and cheese burrito like Deamon...bring TP. :)

bring a friend is a good idea. i always think someone will be out there :rolleyes:
on a couple nights i was the only crazy one out there. kinda scary.

And make sure you stay Far away from anchored boats. The hull slap and sonar ping will spook fish.

Can anyone tell me about parking at night? Specifically is the lot open all night or should I find a place on the street?

Usually the first four spots on the right before the loading zone are open.
