Kayakfishing @ La Jolla or ??

Hi all

I am from Northern California and will stay San Clemente State Park starting this Sunday for 7 days with family. I want to bring my kayak and go out fishing on one of those days. Probably on July 2 or 3.

From what I read, looks like La Jolla is the best choice for yellowtail. If not, let me know. I know Dana Point is much closer but yellowtail and halibut are on my mind. I hope someone can help and guide me out there. What's more, I need a buddy system or my wife wouldn't let me go out. :D I am more than happy to buy you a 6-pack of beers or whatever.

After reading more, the more chance I will bring my OK P-15 down there. Any recommendation place to buy live squids near La Jolla area?

Thanks

If I were you I'd fish Dana. Close, easy launch, bait receiver is on the way out of the harbor, and lots of butts in the area. If you fish LJ be prepared to make your own bait (i.e. bring a Sabiki). Either place you fish bring a good livewell and some plastics for backup. You can always fish for bass if the big ones don't want to play with you.

I'm planning on being out on the 2nd and the 3rd. I was thinking La Jolla too because the weather and surf/swell looks PERFECT!

Why do you say that Danno? Because of the extra human population for the 4th?

Well at least for someone that's fishing La Jolla for the first time I'll be able to follow others out that know where the F they're going LOL.

I've lived here for many years and it should not be a cluster fuck. July 4th is even fine with an early launch. The 2nd and 3rd,since not on a weekend, will be like a regular summer weekday.
