Thanks to the creative ingenuity of Josh Pruit and, not to mention, his knowledge, patience and countless correspondence calls, "Gran Papacito" my long awaited custom spinning jig stick was finally completed. I named it in honor of my new baby's Grandpa, who loves to fish, and now comes with me every time I'm on the water. I've always loved spincast rod/reel combo's, and it's always been my dream to hook up a formidable Yellowtail on a spincast setup. . . .and with Josh's vision, that dream took a step towards realization. We got to work putting together a setup that would have enough muscle to handle ornry 30 lb + Yellowtail with even the worst of attitudes. Josh was there through the entire process, guiding me through the proper blank selection, helping me choose length and wrap specs, and helped back order the limited production guides and correspond with the rod builder to make a rod/reel setup built specifically for one purpose. . . .

Awesome rod! (Something you can only say on a fishing forum or to a guy named Rod)

What reel did you guys come up with?

I second that, which reel are you going to use? I reccomend a penn battle. I have caught a few huge rays on my 5000.

Here's my homemade marinade:

30 oz pineapple juice
1.5 cup soy sauce
1 tsp chili flakes
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp olive oil
1/4 cup honey
2 tsp peppercorn
1 tsp garlic powder
2/3 cup brown sugar

I like to marinate fillets, especially belly meat overnight, while soaking hickory hardwood in water, and smoking slowly produces great results.

Sully,

Based on your beach pix and on the water pix, I think you got it all wrong.

It should be lock, stock and two smoking barrels! ;)

Nice one Pete! It's a seeker blank, with daiwa saltist 5000, to which I've added a few rubber O-rings to protect the internal bearings from seawater, and you can see one on which to secure hooks. The white spectra doesn't hide blood as well as the green though, but the fish don't seem to care too much.
