livewell stank

My hobie livewell has been getting used quite a bit and for the most part ive been using alot of anchovies. I rinse it very well after every use including pulling the pump cartridge out and checking for debris. It still smells luke dead fish. I store my gear inside but cant figure out how to beat the stank. Is there some way to deodorize the tank that won't transfer odd chemical odors to my bait when I use it?

You may have a dead anchovy that crept its way into either the motor/pump or behind it. So give it a looksie around.

I recently had two little guys decomposing in my livewell and one in my bilge-pump (got sucked up when I attempted to drain the live-well). Stunk up the garage pretty good, but once cleared no more stink!

LMAO...not sure if this is the case with your tank. I have a Hobie live well too...I went fishing one weekend and rinsed everything really well at the end of the day. Went to work Monday morning and when I came home that evening and opened the garage, a raunchy fish smell hit me...I searched everywhere...then it dawned on me to look in the rod holder. There it was....an anchovy must have jumped out of my tank and was in the bottom of the rod holder....rinsed it out and the smell was gone.

I'm the opposite. If it don't smell like fish I'm not fishing;)

Doesn't that just had to the seasoning of the bait?

I lost a squid in my hobie tank. Real nasty. I give the tank a more thorough wash and inspection now. Mike
