You got it.

Man those halibut have some serious teeth... How'd you clean it up? With those beetles?

crazyfishnfool 11-19-2013 06:28 AM

No beetles, just a tupperware filled up with bleach and let it sit for a week drain it, rinse it with water, fill it with bleach again let it sit for another week. At that point all the meat and skin should be dissolved and you should have a bowl with 8 pieces of jaw bones. The tricky part is to get the pieces to line back up then start crazy gluing one at at time. I had crazy glue every where. My kids loved it, they want to paint the teeth with glow in the dark paint so they can see it from there beds at night.

Those 'but jaws turned out awesome. Great idea with the glow in the dark. Gonna have to steal that idea. :p

I did the same thing with my 45lb hali.

However, it looks like you placed the upper part of the jaw in incorrect. Regardless, looks cool.

I'm still trying to get mine completed, I'll probably place it in a shadow box.

I wanted to get the jaw to match how it looks when the mouth is completely open.

Thought it was a pit bull at 1st! Really nice job on the prep. I've prepared at least 50 skulls and experimented with several techniques over the years. There are many successful ways to clean bones but dermestid beetles are the least stinky and do the least amount of damage on delicate skeleton material. If you use bleach be carefull to dilute it and don't soak your material more then a week. Excess bleach will cause the bone to become chalk-like. Thanks for sharing your cool pics.
