Fishing Pliers: What do you like?
I have some needle nose pliers, a cheap braid cutter, but I need a little stronger pair of pliers. Some like the Adaro P Line pliers. I have seen the Boomerang pliers online but have no experience with them. Some say Sargent are great.
What do you like and why? |
Also looking for a good pair. Seems ones I buy get all rusty at end of season even after I wash them and apply oil every few months.

won't rust
I'm not sure if this isn't powerful enough for you, but a buddy and I both got this because of it's durability. This won't rust. I haven't even rinsed with fresh water.
It's also relatively inexpensive...titanium/aluminum alloy http://www.amazon.com/ForEverlast-G2...fishing+pliers |
My suggestion: try them out at a shop before you buy them online. I had a chance to hold two different brands that looked very similar but the handles on brand X were slightly wider than the handle on brand Y. Although the difference in width wasn't noticeable it made a huge difference when you actually held it in your hand.

Turners often has the P-Line Adaro Jr's on sale for $20, which come with lanyard and pouch.... but I guess that doesnt really help those without a Turners nearby.
I keep one for kayak/surf fishing, and one for boat fishing. I like them a lot more than my regular P-line pliers (which are really just cheap, re-branded pliers you can get at any hardware store) and Cabelas pliers I have, which are constantly rusting. The braid cutter on the Adaro works really well, and stays sharp... but the location of the cutter can be awkward at times. |
stainless...

I have the ForEverlast Pliers and they hold up to kayak use very well. I've had them for almost a year and no rust yet.
The pliers themselves are not tough though. When I bend down barbs or hooks, the grooves in the pliers began to "eat away." The braid cutter is getting dull and I should replace it soon. Overall, I like these set of pliers. I have used the Boomerang Pliers as well (link below). These did not handle normal kayak use at all and I had to trash them in about 6 months. http://www.amazon.com/Boomerang-Tool...omerang+pliers The Newer Boomerang Pliers look decent, but I've never tried them. http://www.amazon.com/Boomerang-BTC2...omerang+pliers |
