New paddles?
I looking to buy a new paddle, to replace my cheap-o paddle i currently use. The problem here is, i dont know what kind to purchase. Werner Corryvrecken(wide and short)Carbon? Werner Kalliste(thin and long) Carbon? Or something else? I looking for something were i wont get fatigued.
Thanks guys. |
Start Here with this guide. Just know there are exceptions to every rule. I'm 6'4" with wide shoulders by all accounts a 240cm paddle should be a good fit for me, but I'm a high angled paddler. 230 feels more comfortable as I tend to lean into my stroke a bit. Long and narrow would be for more of a leisurely low angled paddler. Keep in mind the beam width of your kayak too bit mostly get familiar with your specific style of paddling

First you need to find out if you paddle high or low? That's what the cheap o paddles are good for :) Then how efficient are you at it? The bigger the blade the faster you will go but do you have the strength? After that is how fat your wallet is...the fatter your wallet the lighter your paddle.

or just disregard all above and just buy yourself a hobie

My first paddle was a cheap square-bladed paddle and that's all I knew. Then I went to a Werner all carbon paddle and it was amazing the difference! I did feel like it didn't move enough water for me since I was used to the old beast, which in turn meant I couldn't go as fast unless I paddled like crazy. The only perk was that I could paddle leisurely all day without a hint of fatigue, but honestly I still use my original and haul the Werner as a backup. I agree though, know your paddle stroke and buy not just based on the numbers.

i currently paddle with a bending branches angler pro 240cm. i've got a pretty wide kayak, paddle with a high angle, and am about 5'9". says my length should be 230-240cm. went with the longer, and never looked back! |
i believe im a high angled paddler. so would the Werner Corryvrekken be better? I'm 5'10 160. what size should i get?

I have owned several paddles including an Onno and a custom made carbon fiber also. I now own a Werner Camano and it is the best paddle I have ever used and is a 230 model. I have a low paddle stroke and the Camano is one of the best for that style.

You mentioned the Kalliste which is a Ultimate Performance paddle with the full foam core blade. If you were looking for that level paddle in a High Angle you would want the Ikelos. What boat are you paddling? This will help determine length. |
@Siebler i have a 14ft malibu x factor
|
240cm should be good for you.
