Orcas surround boat, prey on hiding sea lions Family travels eight hours to go whale watching in Prince Rupert only to be told there's nothing to see; once they found someone to take them, they saw plenty
March 21, 2014 by David Strege
http://cdn.grindtv.com/wp-content/up...3/whale-1-.jpg Orcas chase a sea lion close to the boat off Prince Rupert, British Columbia; screen grab from video Travis Twizell drove his family eight hours from Prince George to Prince Rupert, British Columbia, in hopes of taking the kids on a whale-watching excursion. When they got there, they couldn’t find a boat to take them out. “It’s not whale-watching season,” he was told. “You won’t see anything,” charter-boat operators said. “I even phoned a [boat] taxi service to see if they could just take us around the harbor,” Twizell told GrindTV Outdoor. “Then I found one gentleman [who said] ‘Yeah, I’ll take you out.’” But he, too, wasn’t confident they’d see any whales. Then they saw this (warning for mild expletive): <a href="<iframe width=" 560"="" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1RfuqJvfhbc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="">"><a href="<iframe width=" 560"="" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1RfuqJvfhbc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen=""> |
That was pretty awesome!

Did they really not have life jackets on? Holy crap... That would have been a pucker moment! I would have ditched the Sea lions for sure and watched from a safe distance.

Wow!!! That was crazy. Thanks for sharing.

I would have tried a hard port side turn if I was the captain. Run those seals right into the whales mouths.
Save the whales Shoot the seals  |
