BAJA OR BUST Summer 2015

June-September it is usually TOO HOT to fish Gonzaga. The fish are there it is just the heat. So I am looking for areas on the Pacific side. Maybe centered within 100 miles or so of San Quintin. North or south, makes for an easy drive. The goal is to EXPLORE and beach camp this area when it is too hot for the Sea of Cortez. Needed will by your suggestions of areas with good fishing. Also at least two 4WD vechicles just in case. June would be nice to check out this area. What we find could be used for other trips through out the rest of the summer and into 2016.

I would think that 8-10 days would let us explore these beaches to find good camping and launch areas, any interest? It is up to you guy's, let me know what you think. Thanks.

What do you think about El Rosario? It is only about 5 hours past the border and google earth shows some pretty neat stuff on the coastline, including an estuary.

Punta Baja looks pretty sweet too, just south of El Rosario

So Brandon you got access to 4WD? I am game for any locations within a days drive. Mine is only 1WD, my chevy does not even have positraction. When I go further than a day it will be Abreojos, Asuncion or Turtle bay.

BOB, I can't complain with abreojos, but yes my diesel is 4 wheel drive

Its also averaging about 24 MPG as well.

:D

Thanks Bob for throwing in the suggestion about 4-wheel drive.
I'd always had a 4-wheel drive for most of my life but my last purchase was a 2-wheel drive Escape (I figured my back injury ended my 4-wheeling days) , just so that I could transport my Kayak. I had planned to pay it off when my lease was up at the end of this year, but now I guess I'll go out and get another 4X4 (and just "suck up" the gas mileage.)!
I'd really like to join you guys out on a Baja trip sometime once my back issues are taken care of! :)
Never Kayaked Baja but want to now that I'm into it!

Robert the easiest way to suck up the poor milage is to split costs on these trip with a friend. It is much easier to launch and land in the Sea of Cortez, but cooler in the summer to fish and explore the Pacific side. Brandon we do need to do the Abreojos thing next summer. And for you guys out there thinking about this gas and diesel is available all over baja, most of the roads are good and the fishing can still be world class in most out of the way places the fish see little to no pressure. Came on down, the water is fine.

Campo Rene along the estuary in abreojos would be a great spot to camp.

Brandon we might swing by Abreojos for a day or two on our Asuncion trip this November to check it out.

So how many of you guy's and gal's are interested in going on one of these trips? Does anyone want to set up dates for a Gonzaga trip for this spring? I am open to your ideas and suggestions.

Keep me informed about the June trip. We usually
fish BoLA with Igor in June.

I really like the area around Erendira and Punta
China. Lot's of kelp and boiler rocks. If you can
make bait yellowtail are just outside kelp line.

Easy sand beaches to launch just North of Castros.

What are the road/resort conditions like down to Mag bay?...and is it worth fishing
I'm only familiar with Mag Bay from the POV of a 10/12-day long range trip!
Of course this would be a longer trip due to distance.

Roads are good paved all the way. San Diego to Mag Bay 18-20 hours driving time. So to do this trip is 2 days down and 2 days back 11 days would give 7 days to fish. If you had a full two week vacation you might get 11 fishing days. I have heard 10+ fish an hour is the norm, but remember this is bay bass country so expect lot's of spotties. Also grouper, halibut, croaker, snappers, corvina and maybe a snook, pompano, or jack. Worth fishing??? on the fly???
You tell me. It is on my bucket list.
