2015 Outback rectangular hatch option

The new design allows for the hatch to be installed, but the deck has been lowered by 2 inches and have found out first hand that it comes up about a 1/4 inch short of being able to insert the rec bucket and close the hatch.

So much for that idea on my new Outback. I guess I will use the deep round bucket instead. I doubt Hobie will make a little shallower bucket for the rectangle hatch. Looking inside the hatch I thought it would be close but there are two ribs where the hull indentations are that get in the way.

Just need a bucket mod....One that's not so deep....Maybe take a torch/heat gun and heat the bottom of the bucket and mold it to the contour of the bottom of the yak....

Just an idea....

You were saying?

I still think you should apply

Or

First determine how much to tall the bucket is. Cut 1" above the bottom of the bucket all the way around so you now have a tray(if you will)from the bottom piece, next trim off how much the bucket is to tall from the cut you made to remove the tray from the upper bucket. Measure a 1"cut up each corner of the rest of the bucket from the bottom corners. Cut at each corner the 1" which will allow the top to flex into the bottom tray tightly. Shoe goo it or small screws or both and you've got it.

Just cut 1" off the bottom and it will fit!

Genius, absolute genius.

You should apply for a job at Hobies R & D department.

I hope HOBIE has some shorter buckets made. I planned on storing my fly box cases in the rectangular hatch! :( Otherwise there is no realistic/reasonable place to store my cases! There's no way they fit in the circular hatches!

The old cut first measure second trick. Missed it by that much! Sorry about that Chief!

What's more important? Retaining the original seat height and stability by dropping the deck level (purportedly - I didn't measure and compare), or preserving the function of an accessory gear bucket? 'Standability' will be improved, not that it's a big deal on the ocean. It is good info to know.

Cut bottom off at about 2 inches up

Insert cut piece inside larger piece and push all the way down?

Looks like there is some taper to the insert, but maybe not enough

the tackle management that comes stock on the PAs fits no problemo.

Round hatch vs. square hatch

hey guys, newby here with a ??? Is that an option to get the rectangular hatch on the new Outback instead of the round hatch? Is this something that can be DIY? I've always loved the Outback but because of my back issues I ended up getting a Cuda 12 with the elite seat. Now that Hobie has come out with the Vantage seating I think I'm gonna have to get an Outback now. I like the rectangular hatch vs. the round one.

thanks!

Mike

It's not an option from the manufacture but you can order the hatch and do it yourself or have the shop do it for you.
