Well done Wayne -
I was out the day after in one of our other areas and scored but not nearly a big and hefty as yours. Ya gotta take what the ocean gives ya and you were given much. Congrats Nicholas |
Very nice flatty. Those larger models have been elusive in the DP area this year. I had an interesting hook up on one a couple weeks ago. I was on the edge of the canyon off the headlands in 185 feet of water. I was fishing a dropper with a fairly large mack. I had decided to reel in and reset my drift. I was reading in and probably 60 feet off the bottom and got hit. After a fairly uneventful fight I have this big butt laid out next to the yak. I had decided that I wasn't going to keep anything on that day but when I saw it I realized that it was probably a personal best so decided to harvest it. While scrambling for my gaff she gave a quick head shake and came unbuttoned.
185 feet of water 60 feet off the bottom. Go figure! |
Wayne -
You da' MAN! :notworthy: Good fish, good job, and the start of some GOOD karma... |
maybe that butt was attracted to your new boat. Nice job... you are on a roll!
|
Thanks for the kudos and Rossman sharing his experience with the pelagic hali. I read somewhere that hali tagged along the coast passed across the San Pedro Channel (3,000 - 4,000 ft deep!) to show up later in Catalina. Who would think they could swim 20+ miles in the open ocean?

Way to Go
That is one nice fish!!! Hope to see you on the water soon. :you_rock:
|
Nice beasty!
|
Hey Wayne,
Met you and your buddy on the water a few years ago. This couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Way to go! Southman :luxhello: |
furthest they have been reported moving is from oceanside, to monterey bay, a tagged one
|
It really has been a tough year for the halibut at dana. Thankfully el nino had brought some other interesting fishing with it to keep you on your toes.
That is a very nice halibut though, congrats :luxhello: |
Nice, at first glance I thought that was a new paddle board.
|
Wow Wayne!! That's a sweet fish!! And on a sardine...
It seems with all the macks around, those halibuts would be feeding only on them. Nice job finding a trophy. |

Nice fish! Think I met you at the dock at DP Jet Ski and Kayak Center a few weeks ago. I was the bigger guy asking about your new outback. Maybe I'll see you out there soon.
