I don't really think there are any "good" paddles under $100.

Check out the quality of a Tybee Hooked or Skagit Hooked by Werner, made in the USA. Cost $135

I agree with Andy- the 120-150 mark is a HUGE upgrade.

Werner, Bending Branches, Adventure Technology, and Aqua Bound all offer awesome paddles for a little more money that will blow away anything at 100.00 range.

good paddle

So, what is the difference in paddle performance? I have simple paddles that my wife and I use on our kayaks, we aren't familiar with the differences in an expensive versus cheap. Seems to me that the big concern is paddle shape and square inch of paddle, and ergonomics. When I picked up my kayak from OEX I didn't see any difference in paddle design from what was there compared to the cheap one I bought. I would appreciate any info someone would provide that would empirically measure the value in spending more on my paddle. I don't mind paying for something that I can get more out of, but not if I don't really feel the difference. If it is just a ford versus chevy thing, then I will take my ford and be happy.

Cheap paddles are generally heavier and expensive ones are generally lighter...does it make a difference....YES!

If kayaking is something your serious about, spend the money buy good equipment. My werner paddle cost me around $400 bucks new for example, and its over 5 years old, still an awesome paddle.
