Fred Hall
I am going to the FH show today. Can anyone advise whether I can expect good deals there or will I get gouged?!

Last year I got a few good deals at Del Mar. This yeat at LB the best deal was the $50 CCA membership that included admission and coupons for a bunch of free swag and discounts.

Good deals are there, just have to search. That's half the fun. Enjoy your day!

Seeker
I got a great Seeker Rod to fit my new Avet SXJ 2 speed. Nice rod for 150$. So is CalStar a better rod than a Seeker? I have some of both, but overall the Seeker seems more affordable. Am I comparing apples and oranges? Differences, preferences? Also, I want to get into LMB fishing again. Rods, reels, suggestions?
OMG, fishing can be expensive! Janine |
You can use the same reels for the bay and calico for LMB fishing.
First you need to decide what techniques you want to use for LMB. There are several. Crankbaits, drop shot, Flipping, pitching, swimbaits, topwater, jerkbaits, texas rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits, etc. I think many guys go with three different setups. One for tossing flipping/pitching senkos deep in the tules. Use a 7'6 heavy power rod extra fast action baitcasting reel 6.5 gear ratio or faster Dropshot. 6'6 to 6'9 inch spinning combo with moderate action to mod. fast action 6.5 gear ratio Crankbaits and spinnerbaits. 7' moderate action rod baitcasting reel 5.5 gear ratio Tons of choices for rods and reels and companies. I like my daiwa tatulas and lews reels. Rods Lot of guys like the Abu garcia veritas 2.0 rods I like salmon rods for crankbait rods and they seem to be more reasonably priced than dedicated crankbait rods. I am going to get a okuma shadow stalker that I think will definitely work for the fresh and the salt. You probably have a lot of gear at home already that you can use for LMB. The next few weeks should be very good for LMB. |

Fantastic info. I will look into this. LOL! Right now, I'm spending enough money. But this is my passion. Hell, it could be shoes or jewely. I think my wife may feel differently though! J |
