What's best rack for 2 Revo 13s on 2015 Subie Outback?
My 2012 Revo's come in at 60 lb each I believe. Subie factory rack may be rated for 150 lb.
Can you fit two boats on the wagon? Are the Subie crossbars safe? Can one trust the factory rig and just add Thule or Yakima j-holders and run bow and stern lines for safety? Do molded pads help cradle boats and assist hard points handling the load? (Long hauls) Are side lifts or roller rigs a plus? |
I've seen those aluminum crossbars fold. Thule or Yakima are a better choice. I trailer them now on a Malone. One "j" rack and one cradle. It's way easier to load and tie off.

Shouldn't you be putting 2015 Outbacks on your 2015 Outback?
:D |
I have an Impreza with this:
http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/produc...b53-_-arb53999 I have put borrowed kayaks on it no problem (two Outbacks) using one of these: http://www.thule.com/en-us/us/produc...-834-_-1636655 and the other direct to rack. I admit that was a little ghetto, but you can just get a couple kayak racks and that would be better. As far as weight goes, I have put more gear in a Thule cargo box mounted to the same rack system than those two kayaks. Enough climbing gear to climb El Capitan and numerous other camping goods from fishing equipment to chairs and tents for two weeks worth. If I had to guess how much it weighed when I have it packed, I would say close to 300 pounds. Sorry for the long winded version........... |
2X my thoughts exactly!!!!!!

One should also note that how much one can safely load on a roof and how much one can safely drive with on a roof are two separate things. Two kayaks at 60# each isn't all that much to ask, so I'd think you'd be ok. Try to distribute your weight as evenly as you can and drive accordingly.
