Lowrance 5 chirp GPS owners
Trying to help a neighbor choosing a FF. He asked about the FF in the title. Your reviews are needed. West Marine shows positive reviews but....
Thanks guys. Paul |
Hook series have a $50 rebate right now. These are the same as the previous Chirp, just did away with the useless extra data cable. I have been happy with the Chirp 4, does what I want it to do.

I have the Elite Chirp 5.
Very user friendly, easy to navigate screens and modify sonar setting on the fly once you get the hang of all the options. Nice big screen sure helps and the GPS is really awesome for marking spots. I find myself using the downscan and GPS more than the fishfinder. Be sure that he picks out the correct transducer for the correct conditions he will be using it for. I hear it makes a big difference. |

careful of transducer with HOOK
I found out yesterday that the HOOK has a freshwater transducer, and the same unit is $200.00 less than an Elite with a lower frequency transducer. That is because although both types (Hook and Elite) have the 455/800 Hz, the Hook also has 83/200 while the Elite also has the 50/200. The lower frequency of the Elite is supposed to be better for the denser salt water.
