So I just bought a new pair.

I wanted a smaller pair to carry in the kayak and throw under the seat of my car for checking surf and birds close to shore. These are really nice and I am very happy with them. I obviously cannot attest to the durability as I just got them. They are better than an expensive pair of Nikon's I have as far as the view, clarity and focus goes.

Which Nikon model? I have the monarch 5s and guarantee you my optics are better. Then again I hunt so my optics are a lot more expensive than bushnell will ever be. I wouldn't spend much for a kayak binos so you probably made a good choice. But any binos worth their salt will be a lot more expensive and result in more birds being found but then again you have limited range In a kayak. Good buy I think

You should add a tuna tower to your kayak.. It helps spots paddies better with the bino's..

Since we are speaking of things you should buy for a kayak.. [emoji4]

I have the OceanPro. Optic wise, not on the water, the Bushnels are great and I prefer them for their size and quality. The OceanPro are not exactly top of the line to begin with.

Binoculars are invaluable no matter how high off the water you are; spotting birds, foamers, PB'ers, and kayakers.

I've found countless inshore squid nests from the beach with binoculars, especially in the Bu 2010 and 2011.

Don't be discouraged by snide remarks. If you are new to kayak fishing (I am) or new to navigating "yourself" to fish (I'm not), get some binoculars.

I like my Nikon too! I don't think people would take it too well if I said I was just using it to spot boils though.

Im rather new to this but how do you spot squid nests from the beach?

One other question... If you spot birds using your binoculars are you able to make it to the spot in time on the kayak before they move on? I mean usually if my eyes can see the birds I struggle to make it let alone using bino... But maybe I'm slow..

binoculars are so outdated. I prefer a telescopic periscope. You wont ever need a tuna tower again.

In the middle of the day, the birds will be camped out over the bed. One nest I found off Zeros literally had like 5000 birds sitting on it. That is way old tactics man. My grandma taught me that, literally.

In terms of kayaks and birds. I'll use La Jola. If I am paddling out and there are no birds around the inside but birds out over the NW corner, I'm gonna head for the NW corner. Pretty simple.

If you can see the birds you can decide if you want to paddle to them. If you can't see them you can keep not being active in your persuit of catching fish. Again, simple.

If you don't want binoculars, don't think they are useful, think it's stupid, don't get them.
