Dangers of Pre-Fishing Part II
Sorry about the Timely Report...LOL...!
We had a great pre-fish yesterday with some of the Battle of the Bays participants that were not familiar with the launch and fishing the Redondo area. Frank from Hookup Baits was the hot stick... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030009.JPG http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030012.JPG Frank was the first to get bit on the Sardine color Hookup Bait...he hooked three small yellows on that bait. We all immediately switched over to the Hookup Baits and it was "Game On".:reel: It was a tough shot with the gaff on those squirrley little Yellows...so the net was the easiest way to land em.... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030016.JPG This is Franks personal best Sandbass...which is a lot to be said for a Hookup Baits pro-staffer. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030028.jpg Yes that's 23" long...!:cheers1: http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030032.JPG David and his son had a fun time and they caught a few bass... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030059.JPG Scott started slow but he eventually found the school and pulled two Yellows out of the spot... http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030038.JPG http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030040.JPG We hit a deepwater area for some Rockfish but they just didn't want to bite... Tom still gave it his best shot with the AHI Live Deception jig. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwegall...0/P6030073.JPG To register for next Saturday's tournament...please go to... www.battleofthebays.com |

Late post
Pic of someone taking a pic http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...g/P1060494.jpg So, here's a video of what transpired that day I know they are not very big, but that was a blast on light tackle The Hook-up baits are great working lures and got the bite started, but I was using a Lunker City Fin-s Rainbow Trout color fluke and a 1/2oz. head https://youtu.be/YnHrBPFZNBE Thanks Jim! That was a blast! |
what a treat on the firecracker yellows! Does anyone know if the bubble was going that day? Or completely just coincidental on them being there?

That's a PIG sand bass. Awesome day out there!

Yet, when tournament time comes, I spent about an hour in that exact area throwing everything I could think of - then moved off to deeper water around the canyon - then moved south towards PV and fished the outer surfline back to the harbor trying for halibut. Spent the rest of the day in the harbor sticking to my halibut plan with nothing to show.
Just another one of those days - but I did enjoy being out there. From what I understand most of the fish were caught in the first half hour/45 minutes, then it all shut down - so if you didn't haul out to the offshore structure fast you were shut out. The winning fish were probably caught before I even cleared the breakwater, as I was slow drifting for halibut on the way out. Enjoyable tournament though, and I'm looking forward to next years. With Dana Point in the mix for next year, I'll probably do that one as well as Mission Bay, as its half the drive for me. The 405 coming south Saturday was gridlock like a Friday afternoon commute - couldn't believe the traffic... |
