Buying Kayak , as are human powered and dont need CF numbers . I am concerned about theft , the kayaks only have molded serial number . That looks like you take a razor blade and just scrap it off . And say , hey this is my boat what's your proof it yours . Mine will kepted in back yard , but with two cars a boat prop being stolen in a nice neighborhood . You don't want make easy for creeps . Got any suggestions ?

Engrave your name and phone number inside the hull by one of the hatches, for id purpose. The rest of the time when it's on my truck it is secured by a heavy duty bicycle cable lock.

I think the engraving is a smart move, just be prepared to undo it if you want to resell it.

If you buy a camo colored boat, take through pics of it. The camo is 100% unique, so if its documented, it would be pretty easy to see its the same boat through investigation.

Also, damn if someone wants to steal a kayak, especially a fishing one. These things are so damn heavy. Good luck to someone trying to carry one of these down the street. LOL

If theft is a problem for you, you can consider hiding a waterproof tracking device somewhere inside your kayak and follow it's location on a phone app.

Your kayak is covered thru renters or homeowners insurance.

All my stuff is covered thru renters insurance but I also added boat insurance for my Hobie PA 14.

100k liability
20k medical in case I get injured on the kayak
$100 deductible

All for $8 a month. Worth the piece of mind if you ask me.

You can always use a Sharpie and write your name/CDL on the inside of your kayak on the underside of the deck.

Nobody will know it is there unless they use a mirror.

Problem is if the cops recover it they won't know it is there either.

all the markings in the world won't help if you cant locate the kayak.

In San Diego County, my kayak and somewhat expensive bicycles are always indoors under lock and key. Even that may not prevent theft, but it's better than leaving it outside.

My outback has a vin number on it, though it could be erased with a hot blade.

a friend, Donnie, Registered his kayak as a boat and stuck the numbers on the top of the inside so you would need to take a picture of it to see that their there, if its there.
