Acid Wrapped Rods
|
Hey Dave,
I had a custom acid wrapped Calstar 970 that I tried. I did not like the long length of the rod itself on a yak, so I never really used it enough to really give you any input, and I never caught any fish on the thing either, but they are quite the rage I hear.:D |
Halibut fishing.......
The best application for acid wrapped rods from a kayak is bounce-balling for Halibut, and whatever else hits those things ;). The 1 lb+ weights used, and constant bend in the rod is perfectly suited for these rods. Not to mention, they look cool .

I have a Quantum Gary Klien acid wraped rod I have used to throw my spinner baits with. I love the way it works and can get long accurate casts with it.

Acid Wrapped rods are simply to reduce the amount of torque put on you. They eliminate the rods constant attempt to twist.
They work well on a kayak just like they do any other time. |

ive wrapped 1 like this and use it. It is nice I like it. I have also used them when I worked on the boats (customers rods) and enjoyed fishing with them as well.
The only problem with these rods is that they are going to tend to be more expensive which turns many people off. The crappy thing is that these actually cost LESS to wrap because of the smaller guides used (and usually less guides as well). |
