The best way is to try and locate the owner and give it back.

Post it on Northern California Kayak Anglers website. You found a $1,000 kayak. Make an effort to locate the owner. If no one claims it it's yours. I wouldn't see it any different if soneone took my kayak off my truck or if someone "found" my kayak and just kept it.

485. One who finds lost property under circumstances which give him
knowledge of or means of inquiry as to the true owner, and who
appropriates such property to his own use, or to the use of another
person not entitled thereto, without first making reasonable and just
efforts to find the owner and to restore the property to him, is
guilty of theft.

Know I can see why he posted this question in a Southern Cal forum instead of a Nor cal forum. Wouldn't want the pesky rightful owners to claim it or cause a stink.

He will find you!

Please post on the boards throughout California to locate the original owner. If it's grey, has a fishfinder mount (Cuda 168) and has a repair on the rear end (Andy at OEX fixed this) where the rudder goes on, that's my boat.
Pictures would be nice.

If it's not mine and If no one claims it, you can proudly take it out on the ocean without fear of the curse.

I don't know how someone could just "find" a 14 foot kayak on the side of the road.

Shet, I don't know how a person can lose one without noticing it. Been there, done that...:o

whether you return it or not, yes it is repairable. plastic welding is the best/ strongest way. just tricky to get the hang of at first.
