Marine Radio
I was just given an ancient marine radio, (Apelco VHF510). I have never had one of these before but like the potential safety that carrying an emergency radio on my yak will provide. I read the manual and have learned how to use the device but am wondering about which channels are the best to monitor.
Are there a couple channels that most people use when talking with one another while fishing off shore? Is there an emergency channel that is monitored by the CG, Lifeguards or other emergency services? Thanks in advance for your help. Bob |
So you are asking which channel has "The Secret Bite" information. 68
For "The Double Secret Bite" info you have to move to Ch. 69 or "The Playboy Channel" :p you may be referred to a cell phone from that point. For help when sinking, or a treble hook stuck in your mouth use the local channels. 68.69.71.72. and your bound to hail a few kayakers in the immediate area. or Ch 16 so you lifeguard buddies can make you famous.:):) http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b8...D720/ry%3D480/ |
With all due respect I would recemend a boating and safety class sponsored by USCG and or United States Power Squaderon. These classes are awesome for knowledge and will shorten that learning curve. Check them out. The saftety of others depends on you...

Obviously Billy, since there are NO FISH in La Jolla, those radio channels must not used very often to discuss the "secret bite" and related subjects. Besides, it is well known that all fishermen are liars. Except for you and me, of course.
Thanks for the info. Bob |
Channels 68 and 72 are the ones used by local recreational fisherman.
Channel 16 is for emergency use and to contact the Coast Guard or Harbor Patrol. Channel 5 is coastal weather conditions. Kevin |
