Big Bay 3/30/10

Took the Pro Angler out on her maiden voyage Tuesday to the big bay before the weather hit. Launched to nice conditions wich soon turned windy but the boat performed like a champ. Spent a lot of time getting to know my yak. Did manage to fish some too. Fished mainly from La playa to the point for 7 Sandies, 2 Spotties and the biggest Mantis Shrimp I have ever seen. Only got a couple of fish pics before my battery crapped out. I know the majority of posts here are La Jolla whoppers but thought I'd share anyway;).
Thing makes my Mazda look extra tiny..

Great report. Great pics too.
Did someone tag that shrimp? Never seen one before and it is huge.
Where did you launch from?

That shrimp reminds of this thing someone told me about today:

Can't believe your car roof didn't cave with that big thing on top.

I love my Hobie. Super stable and lots of room for plenty of gear. I installed two of the Ram 2008 rod tubes and like them a lot. LOVE my FF. It's a Lowrance HDS-5. It's amazing:luxhello:

been thinking about getting a Pro Angler, but have major reservations about putting it on top of my truck. how hard or difficult was it for you to mount it? and i assume you did it by yourself as well?

It would definitely be a chore getting it on top of a truck, suckers are heavy, especially at the end of the day:ack2:. My car is relatively short and the Thule Glide and Set craddles make doing it by myself a smooth job. My first goal was to get a used truck and transport it in the bed with one of those hitch mount, 'goal post' things. Just could'nt find one in my budget so the roof rack was the next option. You could probably do it much easier with one of those Thule Outriggers http://www.rei.com/product/723906 or the Yakima Boat loader http://www.rei.com/product/679458.
