Catching T's
When you guys catch a T-shark and decide to keep it, how do you guys get it up on the yak without having it bite something off?
some guys bring a little metal bat that the beat sharks with till they die, but that's only if you want the shark dead by the time that he comes up to the kayak
Rope its tail and bleed it from the gills. They are not all that difficult to handle and they don't have big teeth... the tail is the part to watch out for!
Keep the feets and hands inside the kayak and you should be ok,unless it comes in horizonal than your screwed!!! Good luck out there....
If you think you can get it on the yak its to small to keep, I tied it to the sides of the yak, It's a pain in the ass to paddle this way but it works, My yak at the time only had a 350lb capacity. Most people use a club, I think I saw a video of a guy useing his fist and just pounded the shit out of one.

If you tail hook it, you'll pretty much have it dead by the time its yakside..
They arent difficult to grab once they are tired..It wont try and bite you, they are pretty docile besides that damn tail! Keep in mind you dont have to worry about size, since it should be field dressed immediately before it pisses the meat. Butcher the little thing right there for optimal taste, and make life easier with overall weight.. |
I shanked the gills and bled it out with its head in the water.I agree that it would be good to semi-fillet right there OTW.Head-Tail-Guts bye-bye.
do gaff's work on the shark if you don't tail hook it
avoid the gaff...if mouth hooked I would reccomend a gill shank to wear it out.If you have ever had a pet Iguana you will know what a tail is capable of.Let him drag you around until he is BEAT.
