Which Reel?
I'm thinking about getting a new reel. Looking at the Shimano Curado 300E or the Abu Garcia Revo Toro 50HS.
I know the specs for the reels, Just looking for information from people that may have one or the other, maybe both for some personal opinions. Good, bad or ? How they hold up around the Saltwater environment. |
I be no expert in this stuff. To me, it seems the Abu G is a bit small for saltwater fishing where depths can be 100' or more, and using line weight greater than 14lbs. Same goes with the Shimano.

All depends on what you plan to fish for with it. And like mentioned above, if you plan to fish deep water, might not be the right reel. For bays and lakes those would both be excellent choices!:reel:
I have a Revo SX and fish the bays, beaches and lakes with it. Awsome reel! I love my Abu G. I dont think I've used it in water deeper than 60'. Has excellent casting and drag, can say enough about it! |
I have the Abu Revo 60 and the Shamino Curado 300E they both hold up to salt water just rinse them everytime after use and lube them when needed and they will last a long time. I have fish both at 100+ feet with no problem.

my opinion, the Shimano will definately hold up better in our environment,
the Abu is a bitchin reel, for largemouth fishin, in the Freshwater... I'm not so keen on the low pro reels in the yak, now on a b boat, that's a different thing...somethin to think about, I've already sent back one reel back to Bps...this week lol..... |
Get the toro 60, it has better drags and more line capacity and even more if you spool it w/ some spectra. I'm actually getting the toro 61 winch this week. I fish shimano for fresh water, but had some mechanical issues when it comes to salt water big game .

Have you considered any made in the USA? I love my Penn and Avet reels. We need the jobs! :D

Go Shimano. Their customer service is the best bar none. I took my Curado 200SF in for a major service. They replaced half the parts in the reel and only charged me $25. Had experiences like that many times over the last 15yrs.
