Safety Gear for the Yaks

O.K. so a couple of our brothers had a very scary moment the other night that turned out Great. My question is what Safety gear do you carry, and what do you recommend others have?

Currently I carry:
PFD always on
VHF radio
Cell phone
whistle
First aid kit

I need to get a:
Portable pump for the bilge

What more do you all recommend

I'm also thinking about the Flare gun, I have the knife already, don't think I'll be having sex with a sealion so I'll leave the condoms for Dorado.

I have the waterproof radio but can't find condoms in the Gigantor size;)

I bought my manual bilge pump at West Marine, its compact and only $22. I have considered flares, maybe I'll pick some up sooner than later.

Though not an expert or Guru I've done some extensive testing of these, and though a little snug these do the job at 35 cents a bang and you can't or I guess can beat them :biggrinjester:

As to pumps I don't carry one... Storage mechanical issues etc I just don't like them for yakking.

Instead I carry a bailor made form a milk jug.

They cost nothing, weigh almost nothing, can't mechanically fail, you only need one hand to use them, and you can actually bail water out of a center hatch faster with one of them then you can with most kayak sized pumps. I always keep one in arms reach. I like option 2 as it bails the fastest and conforms better to the shape of the hull.
