OK RodPod hatch cover upgrade
Anyone know of the availability of replacement rod pod replacement hatches for the OK Tridents? I like the idea of storage the is easily accessible. Reaching around behind me for something quick gets a bit old.

But your answer was better because he can get it local. |

Or you can support the people that bring you this great site instead of our biggest competitor... Ill even Price-match for you. |
not to pile it on, but I strongly suggest supporting the OEX crew. Through two kayaks, a paddle board, several paddles, untold accessories, they have never steered me wrong on price or service!

Wow - talk about a fast response...!! That would be great, I'm up the hill from Pinnacle Peaks. I've seen a different pod cover that is thicker and has room to store tools or whatever - does this one open up for inside storage? Not inside the yak, but inside the pod cover itself? |
I wish I could install one on my Prowler 15. I'm saving up and will upgrade to a Trident 15 someday. I like the Rod Pods.
|
yeah that would be the Modular pod. Has Scotty deals built into it. Doesnt look like it has any internal compartments though, just all sorts of little holders and such.
Im here today and tomorrow and can bring it home with me like I said. |

The much better seal alone makes it a worth while upgrade, in my opinion. Hope this helps |
Thanks Jim, Didnt look like there was any secret compartments on this thing but without opening the package I wasnt 100% sure.
|
No secret compartments, but I've found it's easy to attach bungee to both the top and bottom of the Mod Pod for holding tools and lure boxes. And Like Jim said it's more rigid so you don't have to worry about it buckling if you sit on it.
My only small complaint is that the Scotty style rod holders don't lock. Although they are plenty snug. This video details all the features of the Mod Pod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwxWufm7fCI |
When I was looking for it on-line, I came across this:
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...XklCTdcr0gnyUa and thought I saw some secret compartment, but I was wrong. Here are two good pics of it: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...gD5PhUHPyy90fg and http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...fNYsZ7AXUJbTbX Siebler: I'll let you know tonight or tomorrow about bringing one down. |

That's the center hatch on the OK Ultra 4.7. Jim can tell you more about that one too. |
Yep, that is the Ultra 4.7 rotating hatch. Very cool but also no interior compartment on it.
|
Be aware that you will have to modify your Rod Pod for the new style cover to fit unless they make a different model for retrofit vs. 2011 Tridents? The one I have on my new Trident does not fit on my old one without removing some plastic. Jim mentioned the loss of the sliding tray inside, and you also lose the cup holder. If you currently have and use Pod mounted rod holders etc. I would recommend it. It can save you lots of holes in your yak. As tight as the rod holders fit into the cover holes, there is no need for them to be locking.
|
My upgraded hatches fit on my old Tridents with no issue or plastic removal at all. Not sure why yours would be different.
