Down imaging - useful or overrated gimmick?

All this talk about me getting a FF for my yak and suddenly my brother wants an FF for his boat. His wallet is a bunch fatter than mine and he's looking at the HB 597ci HD Di Combo for $650. HB has another 597ci HD Combo without down imaging for $500 at Bass Pro.
What's your thoughts on the down imaging feature?
